  • “Users judge your product in 50 milliseconds. Just like you can’t un-use a tissue, users can’t un-experience your product.” – Kevin Henrikson. He recently shared a powerful story from his time building Microsoft Outlook and Instacart. That first impression? It shapes everything. But too often, teams rely only on internal reviews. Unmoderated usability testing helps you catch friction before users ever feel it. Full blog by Jillian Heller Foreman in the comments. Testlio's customers have pulled us into payment testing, so I decided to go to the MPE Berlin payments conference to learn more. What I learned is that processing your payment when you buy something from a merchant is much more complicated (and costly) than I imagined as a consumer. I’ve been conditioned to think that when I pay by card, the merchant gets around 97 cents of each $, £ or €. In fact, after all the chargebacks, fees, fraud, and numerous players in the value chain, the merchant ends up with around 90 cents or even less. No one could explain to me why there are so many players involved. (Best answer was banks are heavily regulated so it evolved this way over time.) But in those milliseconds of getting your payment approved when you buy something, the transaction involves Payment Service Processors, POS terminals, payment orchestrators, tokenization providers, acquirers, card issuers, multiple banks, FX providers, anti-fraud programs, IT systems, and a whole lot more. Amazing that they do everything in milliseconds, but each player takes their cut. Hence the 90 cents net to the merchant. As I told my teenagers last night, if you are going to get into business, go where the money is flowing. Payments is the only industry that measures itself in quadrillions of dollars. There is a LOT of money flowing through these systems. This attracts a lot of fraudsters. And sadly fraudsters are the first to adopt AI. David Birch was one of the best panel moderators I’ve ever seen. He got me thinking just how much AI will change payments in our future. Today you can use AI to plan an entire trip for you up until the payment. He thinks very soon we will have our own AI agents making purchases on our behalf within parameters. He asked, how this will change marketing when your AI agent buying something on your behalf (like a vacation), does not care about the color of the vendor's logo or which event or content they sponsor. I don’t know. But I know we are in for an exciting ride. In the meantime, payments are complicated, and there is tremendous value in ensuring they work globally. So I’m not surprised so many Testlio customers have pulled Testlio into payment testing. As my customer at Sky once told me, “Crowdtesting might be the ideal way to do payment testing.” Many thanks to these folks for giving me the gift of knowledge in a 1:1 conversation or as a speaker: Quentin Albrecht, Vera A., Arda Cagaptay, Andrés Cantillo, Ugur Cinar, Arnaud CROUZET, Fiennes Davey, Waldemar Derr, Ali Can Dikmen, Adrianna Dybczyńska, Cameron ☁️ Emerson, Remy Foucault, Peter Hack, Kamil Hanacek, David Hohman, Chris Jones, Eric Liebman, Kaspar Loog, Gary Munro, Melinda Roylett, Louisa Van Den Maagdenberg, Dr. Ruth Wandhöfer, and many others. #ecommerce #bankingindustry #bankinginnovation #payments #mpe2025 #mpecosystem

🚀 eCommerce is evolving fast-are you keeping up? On Tuesday, our founder Kristel Kruustuk returned to host eCommerce Forum 2025 in Tallinn for the third year in a row! This year’s event was the biggest yet, featuring two stages for the first time, reflecting the rapid growth of the industry. Some key takeaways from the stage: 📦 Parcel machine deliveries are up 15% YoY. 17M packages sent last year. 💡 AI agents will shake up pricing & loyalty. Johan Javeus & Christian Oestergaard MSc from PostNord predict fierce price pressure and reduced client loyalty. 🔒 Security matters more than ever. Liisa Past emphasized defining your most valuable assets and prioritizing business-specific risks. 🌍 Winning strategies? Localized marketing (Audrius Butkus), circular economy & pre-loved goods (Mikko Kairtamo), define what success means for your company (Maris Skujins) 🛒 Physical retail isn’t going anywhere - Tarmo Hõbe highlighted how brick-and-mortar stores will always complement online stores. 🎯 Smart growth? Heikki Haldre from Miros AI made it clear: Improve your conversion rate, and your CAC goes down—outsmart the competition by investing in marketing. 🔄 Rental as a growth strategy—Rentalier showcased how rental models can drive brand awareness and customer engagement and let clothes live a long life! 📈 Online shopping keeps booming. 10,000 new e-shops launched recently + 11% growth predicted for this year. 👀 UX matters—Esko Lehtme showed how small tweaks can have a huge impact on conversions. 🧪 Product development? Experiment! Failure isn’t the enemy, it’s part of the process. Martin Neitsov from Cleveron. 💰 Discounts? Kaisa Sakarias put it perfectly: “Discounts are like perfume-spray too much, and instead of attracting customers, you might drive them away. The right balance keeps your brand desirable.” 📝 Accessibility matters—Mari-Ell Mets from Trinidad Wiseman highlighted the EU Accessibility Act 2025. Why did Kristel has decided to host this? "Because eCommerce is a major part of Testlio’s world. We help eCommerce companies improve quality at scale, ensuring seamless shopping, smooth payments, and flawless digital experiences around the world." • “Unit tests are enough to ensure great quality.” Are they? In his latest blog, Ramy Loaiza breaks down why unit and regression testing serve different purposes and why relying on just one can be risky. With AI-generated code becoming more common, how do we strike the right balance? Swipe through to explore when to use each, how they work together, and what it means for software quality. Then, let’s discuss in the comments. 👇 #softwaretesting #softwarequality #qualityengineering

  • “Manual test scripts are a waste of time.” No. If you write them with clarity, purpose, and the right balance of structure and flexibility. Manual scripts are just one piece of the big puzzle. Where do they fit in a modern testing strategy where AI and automation have taken the lead? Christian’s latest blog dives into: 🔹 Manual vs. automated test scripts—when to write, when to automate 🔹 The role of AI in testing (Is it really replacing test scripts?) 🔹 How SmartBear's Reflect and other no-code tools are changing test case management 🔹 Why exploratory testing remains critical alongside structured scripts Swipe through to see the difference between a great test script and a terrible one-then check out Cristian's full blog in the comments. 👇 #softwarequality #software #softwaretesting #qualityengineering

There is a battle going on in your living room. When you bought your smart TV, you chose sides in that war without realizing it. Connected TVs break even on hardware. But the smart TV operating systems make profit on the advertising they sell via that ad real estate you mounted on the wall in your home. The holy grail for advertisers is to match what you watch with what you buy. This is why Amazon launched Fire TV, Walmart bought Vizio for $2.5B, and why Google has the Google and Android TV OSes. One use case from the CTV World Summit that brought this to life for me was this: A brand of kitchen blenders wants to sell more of its high end blenders. A retailer knows blenders have an average life span of two years. The retailer also knows which of its customers bought a blender 2+ years ago. That retailer and/or blender manufacturer will pay a premium to the CTV OS provider to target advertisements on the Connected TVs to its potential consumers while watching their favorite content. So next time you buy a Connected TV, please realize you are picking sides in a TV OS war for that advertising real estate inside your home. Because the market is so large, the dozen+ CTV OS providers keeps growing, rather than consolidating, in each of the three years that I have attended this #CVTWS conference for Testlio. Some of the players in this war raging in your living room: Amazon Fire TV, Apple tvOS, Comcast EntOS, Google TV / Android TV, LG webOS, Roku OS, Samsung’s Tizen, Titan OS, Ventura by theTradeDesk, VIDAA, Walmart Vizio SmartCast, Whale OS… Next time, consider the TV’s OS as much as the picture and sound quality in your decision. Which side in this war did you unknowingly choose the last time you bought a TV? Thanks to these analysts and speakers who shared their insights at this conference: Maria Rua Aguete, Colin Dixon, Matthew Duhig, Joe Evea, Ben Keen, Dan Simmons, Katherine Wen, plus others. #streamingmedia #advertisingandmarketing
