The Judicial Commission on Mental Health (JCMH) was created by a joint order of the Supreme Court of Texas and the Court of Criminal Appeals of Texas. The mission of the JCMH is to engage to empower court systems through collaboration, education, and leadership, thereby improving the lives of individuals with mental health needs, intellectual and development disabilities, and substance use disorders.

The JCMH has gone international! 🌍 This weekend, JCMH Executive Director Kristi Taylor traveled to Vancouver, Canada, for the AAPL - American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law's 55th Annual Meeting. She presented alongside Dr. Patricia Ortiz and Daniela Chisolm about the JCMH and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Psychiatry Residency Program, a partnership between TTUHSC El Paso and the El Paso County Attorney’s Office.

Exciting news for Uvalde County - Hill Country MHDD broke ground on the Uvalde Region Behavioral Health Center last week! The 32-bed facility, specializing in crisis stabilization, will function as a 24/7 diversion center for walk-in patients, with a separate entrance for law enforcement drop-offs. https://lnkd.in/erGMT6-Z

Congratulations are in order! 🥳 JCMH has two new Directors: Kama Harris is the Director of Policy and Education, and Molly Davis is the Director of Operations. Kama has planned and executed 5 Summits and is the lead author of the Bench Book. Molly coordinates our Technical Assistance, including SIM Mappings, and is the lead author of the Juvenile Bench Book. Both joined the JCMH in 2020 and have been integral to the success of the Commission.
