🎼AAG 2025 CFP: Music Geographies Call Your Abstracts!🎵 Please submit abstracts (no more than 250 words) or inquiries of interest on 25 October 2024 to Joseph Palis (jepalis@up.edu.ph), Severin Guillard (severin.guillard@u-picardie.fr), and Ola Johansson (johans@pitt.edu)or contact us for inquiries. Potential papers should also submit their abstracts directly to AAG. 📜Themes and topics 1️⃣ Geography of/through songs and performances While a whole body of works have dealt with the geographical imaginaries conveyed by music songs and performances, it seems that there are ways to push the analysis in several directions. To this end, we will particularly welcome papers that go beyond a mere textual analysis to observe the geography of the sonic, performing and affective aspects of music, as well as the role they can play in the daily life and well-being of music practitioners and consumers. Similarly, we warmly welcome scholars who have a background as a musician/DJ to propose a paper where they can combine a geographical analysis with elements of live performance.    2️⃣ The evolution of music scenes, industries and ecosystems In the last decade, the music industry has been experiencing important changes. The reorganization of the music sector, due to the rise of the streaming economy and growing role of social networks, has led to an acceleration of exchanges between formerly isolated scenes, evolutions in the deals between artists and labels, and transformations in the ways of consuming music. Conversely, the Covid pandemic, in addition to the acceleration of climate change, has cast doubts on the future stability of the live music business, in which major companies had increasingly invested in the aftermath of the record industry crisis. In relation to this, new ways of analyzing the music industry, and its contribution to various places, have emerged, as well as rising calls for building of more inclusive and sustainable music "ecosystems" (Berkers et al. 2023). We will particularly be interested in papers that will approach these changes in music activities and their consequences on the geography of music. 3️⃣ The role of music in urban development, heritage and tourism policies In many cities and regions across the globe, music has been increasingly used as a strategic tool to contribute to tourism, heritage and urban development strategies (Bolderman, 2020). Once falling into the "creative city" paradigm, these policies have refined and diversified, and they are now associated with new objectives, actors and concepts, as illustrated with the widely adopted motto of the "music city" (Ballico & Watson, 2020). Regarding this issue, we will welcome papers dealing with all types of location, both in the US and abroad, but we also encourage papers that will observe the role of music in the development and image of Detroit.
