🏢 The AIA Leadership Summit was an energizing and inspiring experience! Gathering with architects from across the country, we explored what it means to lead with resilience and thrive in our profession. Whether through leadership training, policy advocacy, or meaningful conversations, the summit reinforced the collective strength of our industry when we come together with purpose. One of the most impactful moments for me was interviewing Baratunde Thurston, who challenged us to rethink what it means to participate in shaping our communities. His idea of “citizen” as a verb underscores the power we all have to engage, advocate, and create meaningful change. A simple yet profound takeaway? We need to express appreciation more often. So to all of you working to strengthen our profession—I appreciate you. The theme of resilience resonated deeply—both in how we design for communities facing climate and social challenges and in how we sustain our profession for the long haul. But beyond resilience, we must also thrive. Thriving means embracing change, pushing boundaries, and ensuring that architects remain at the decision-making table. That’s why our advocacy on Capitol Hill was so critical. We spoke with legislators about: ✅ Expanding access to affordable housing ✅ Protecting design freedom in federal architecture ✅ Strengthening community resilience efforts ✅ Ensuring fair compensation and tax incentives for architects These discussions reaffirmed that architects have an essential role to play in shaping a better future—but we must show up, engage, and lead. To everyone who came up to share concerns, celebrate wins, or simply connect—thank you. If I didn’t get a chance to say hello or get a hug, my apologies—it’s not you, it’s me. But know that hugs are always welcome. 🫶 A huge thank you to AIA leadership, my colleagues, and every architect who contributed their voice. Our profession is strongest when we advocate together. As we move forward, let’s continue to lead with resilience and embrace opportunities to thrive in 2025 and beyond. What were your biggest takeaways from the summit? _____________________ Hi, 👋🏻 I’m Evelyn Lee, FAIA | NOMA As the 2025 AIA President, I’m dedicated to fostering a profession where architects: ⇒ Thrive Together ⇒ Embrace Opportunities ⇒ Shape the Future Together Let’s reimagine the role of architects in the future—for progress.

  • What a successful #AIAHillDay! Today, over 400 architects and AIA members met with their members of Congress to advocate for important policies that will shape the future of architecture and the built environment. They advocated for: 📌 Design freedom for federal architecture 📌 Arbitrary fee limitations for federal contracts 📌 Affordable housing programs 📌 Community resiliency 📌 Tax incentives for architects (e.g., R&D tax credit) Thank you to all the members and chapters that showed up today on behalf of the entire profession. Your voices are the most important! 🎉 Have any great photos from your Hill Day experience? Share them on social using #AIALeads25 and #AIAHillDay! #AIA #Architecture

  • Citizen as a verb. What does that mean? You participate, understand power, commit to the collective, and invest in relationships with yourself, others, and the planet around you. That was the message Baratunde Thurston left attendees at #AIALeads25 today. This keynote set the stage for what it means to be an advocate—perfect for tomorrow's time on Capitol Hill! As he said, you are capable. Together, we can create the change we wish to see as a community. The rest of the day included sessions on sessions! With ones like "Leveraging Government Resources for International Success," "Building Resilience: How Architects Can Shape the Future through Resilience Policies & Resources," and "Leadership is an Act of Service," attendees are equipped to return home with lessons to share with their local membership and peers. In the middle of it all, a Know Before You Go session on #AIAHillDay empowered attendees to make the most of the event. During this, we had a special visit from Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV) who is championing the Democracy in Design Act, a key issue for AIA Hill Day tomorrow. To end the day, an advocacy reception (thank you to sponsor Sherwin-Williams!) brought us together to energize each other for the next day. We can do this! Thank you to our sponsors who help make this event possible: Sherwin-Williams, AIA Trust, RAB Lighting, Glen-Gery, Andersen Corporation, Fisher & Paykel, & SAFTI FIRST Fire Rated Glazing Solutions! #AIA #Architecture #Advocacy
