Providing behavioral health, education, and child welfare services to children, youth, and families in Ohio.

About us

The Buckeye Ranch is a private, nonprofit organization with a comprehensive array of mental health treatment options for children, young adults, and families. The Buckeye Ranch is committed to providing high-quality care utilizing the most up-to-date, scientific knowledge to address the challenges faced by the children, young adults, and families we serve. We actively seek the most current research-based treatment approaches in our relentless commitment to providing the best possible care to children, young adults, and families. The Buckeye Ranch also takes a strengths-based approach with every child, young adult, and family. We believe that these strengths can be accessed to help families reach their full potential because families are fundamental in the lives of children and, therefore, central to the treatment we provide. Our families are struggling to overcome serious issues including abuse, neglect, mental illness, suicidal tendencies, addictions, and other life debilitating concerns. Because of this, The Buckeye Ranch is much more than a place. It’s a comprehensive network of skilled professionals, working as a team to provide children and their families with the treatment, guidance and support they need to raise hope and move on to a better place. The Buckeye Ranch is currently serving more than 2,500 children and families from Franklin and other counties every day, at six (6) different locations throughout Ohio. -

At The Buckeye Ranch, we work to be responsive to real-time needs in our community. Our Somali Outreach Program was born a few years ago when our Education-Based Mental Health team noticed the community need to provide our growing population of Somali youth and families in our community with culturally sensitive support.     The program offers access to Somali-speaking case managers to provide support for navigating loss, trauma, and resettlement, as well as issues common to the process of merging cultures.    Our Somali Outreach Program connects Somali families to community resources, provides acculturation services to the Somali community in Franklin County, and connects youth and families and service providers that provide culturally sensitive care to Somali clients and patients!    To learn more, visit: bit.ly/TBRSOMALIOUTREACH

In the wake of a recent tragedy in our community that left three children without guardians, the top priority is to keep the siblings together and in an environment that is familiar with kinship care. We know that when safe, keeping children in their communities with caregivers they are familiar with increases their stability and reduces trauma for youth that are already experiencing a crisis scenario within their family. Our VP of Child Welfare Services, Lindsay Williams, spoke with WCMH-TV, NBC4, nbc4i.com yesterday, about the importance of kinship care, and how it can provide a family-like dynamic and maintain normalcy for youth in challenging circumstances, “When they have a trusted adult supporter in their life, that helps children maintain a sense of stability and wanted-ness and belonging during those challenging times. It can have a huge impact on their life and development going forward.” TW: the following news article discusses suicide Read more: bit.ly/TBR-NBC4-Kinship If kinship care isn't possible, we turn towards foster care placement - but the search for a kinship placement does not end there. We continue to search for a placement that will keep the youth as close to their family as possible whenever safe.  The Buckeye Ranch supports kinship care through our Permanent Family Solution Network program and provides support in placement through our Foster Care program.  Kinship caregivers are also eligible to become licensed foster caregivers to continue to be a light for other youth in our community who need it. Myth: Children in #fostercare have easy transitions between placements in different schools.    Truth: Children in foster care lose 4-6 months of school experience on average during a transition between placements.    Part of this disruption can come from children being placed outside of their own school district.     When you choose to foster, you can help a child to find stability by keeping them in the school district they’re familiar with, helping them learn, grow, and thrive.    Become a life-changing caregiver for youth in need today by visiting bit.ly/TBRFosterCare

We are amazed watching the mural installation at The Bonner Academy come to life!    Mural artist Miles Balfour has been working hard to bring his vibrant vision to fruition! He recently began the outlining process and shared with us his final, full-color rendering of the mural.    This mural was made possible by the generosity of 614 Beautiful Grant funders! Thank you to our community sponsors Neighborhood Design Center (Columbus), Columbus City Council, Council Member Lourdes Barroso de Padilla and City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods for your dedication to improving community spaces. We are incredibly excited for the Hilltop community and students at The Bonner Academy to enjoy the completed mural for years to come.    #columbusmural #columbusart #614Art

🌟Congratulations to Olympian and foster care advocate Kenny Bednarek on winning silver in the Men’s 200m last week! 🌟 Not only is Kenny a medal-winning Olympian, but he is also a proud advocate for foster care.  Kenny was adopted himself at age 4 by his mother Mary after experiencing neglect and abuse. Growing up, he struggled to process emotions and trust those around him as a result. Thankfully, Kenny discovered track and unlocked a new part of himself, finding a sense of belonging and security.  His journey of trauma to triumph is a testament to the power of resilience, hard work, and the importance of a supportive family. Kenny’s message to those impacted by foster care and adoption is one of hope, “I want to inspire others who may have similar experiences and promote safety and stability for all children,” said Kenny. Partnering with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, he’s raising awareness and demonstrating that hope in action. Read more here: bit.ly/DTFA-KennysStory We celebrate Kenny’s success at the #2024Olympics and thank him for his dedication to raising hope for others!🏅  #KennyBednarek #FosterCareAdvocate #ParisOlympics #HopeInAction #TheBuckeyeRanch #DTFA
