Join us as we celebrate the public opening of the Opportunity Center at Vía Sana, a community space designed to connect residents of the Clark-Fulton neighborhood with essential resources for health and well-being. The Open House will be a chance for members of the community to tour the Center and learn about the resources and services available there, including education and training programs, cooking demonstrations and financial literacy workshops. It also is a permanent space for the Tri-C Access Center, which provides affordable or no-cost educational and workforce programming. The Opportunity Center is a hub for the Institute for H.O.P.E.™ , which studies the impact of social drivers of health on the community, develops strategy and processes to screen MetroHealth patients to identify those who are at risk and connects them with community service organizations and other resources. The Institute also develops and delivers direct interventions to help address patients' unmet needs. To RSVP, email InstituteForHOPE@metrohealth.org.

As part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on October 26, University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic are partnering to host collection efforts at more than a dozen locations across Northeast Ohio. This event gives the public an easy way to rid their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs. Medication drop-off locations will be available at various UH locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can find UH locations here: https://lnkd.in/enrRivuy All UH drug take-back sites will offer free naloxone kits and fentanyl test strips courtesy of Project DAWN. This continued effort to make naloxone widely available remains a key strategy in fighting the opioid epidemic. The comprehensive approach appears to be working to combat the opioid crisis, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that U.S. drug overdose deaths decreased by 10%. The CDC, also warned earlier this month of a potential public health risk ordering pills from online pharmacies that may be laced with Fentanyl, leading to accidental overdose. According to the CDC, there were more than 107,500 overdose deaths in the United States in 2023. As part of overall efforts to keep the community healthy, UH Lake West, Portage and TriPoint medical centers as well as the Ashland County Sheriff's Office will also provide no-cost glucose and blood pressure health screenings during this event. “University Hospitals and the Cleveland Clinic continue to collaborate to advance the health needs of our communities by focusing on the prevention of substance misuse,” said Jeanne Lackamp, MD, DFAPA, FACLP, Chair, Department of Psychiatry at UH Cleveland Medical Center and Director, Behavioral Health Institute at UH. “This Drug Take-Back Day is one example of our joint approach to reduce unintentional drug overdose deaths.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/g3sPUJhM #drugtakeback #prescriptiondrugs #opioids #opioidepidemic #opioidprevention #substancemisuse #drugoverdose #prevention
