Catalyzing climate action at the community level through collaboration, programs, and policy advocacy.

About us

We believe the power to confront climate change resides within our communities. We believe citizens, businesses, and local governments have the power to take action, implement policy, and reduce emissions right here in our own backyard of Central Virginia. C3 catalyzes climate action at the community level through collaboration, programs, and advocacy which directly reduce climate emissions and elevate the climate leadership of Virginia communities. We work closely with citizens, businesses, local governments, schools, and nonprofits to develop climate action plans which build in equity while drastically reducing climate pollution. These plans include tangible and measurable actions that are accessible to any individual or organization's needs. We believe that C3's action at the local level can serve as a model for community climate action throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.

  • Today, we kick off our Spring Campaign, “We All Play a Part” 🌱. We each play a part in the climate movement; when we do, momentum builds and the movement grows. Over the next few months, we’ll share how we at C3 each show up to play our parts. First up, Susan Kruse, our Executive Director! From advocacy to financial support, there is so much work we can do to support our communities. How will you play your part? Consider donating and getting involved with C3 to help create an equitable, sustainable future for communities to thrive. 🎯 Our goal is to raise $40k by the end of the Campaign in June, please help us get there! 🚨No Major Supporters Secured for GRTC 🚨 GRTC has yet to secure any major financial supporters to continue funding zero fare past July 2025. This could be a huge loss for riders who rely on public transit to get to work, school, healthcare, and other essential services—and it’s a setback for transit equity in our region. As part of my work advocating for transit justice, I recently wrapped up my residency at the University of Richmond’s Community Partner-in-Residence program. Through this, I’ve worked with students and faculty to document the ways free public transportation has shaped our city and why it must continue. I invite you to join us at Free to Move: The Role of Zero Fare in Advancing Health & Justice in Richmond, a reception where we’ll share key findings and celebrate the community partners who have been instrumental in this movement. 📅 Date: Thursday, March 27th ⏰ Time: 6:00 – 8:00 PM 📍 Location: Queally Center, University of Richmond Register Here: https://lnkd.in/e9crMWxd This is a crucial moment. If you care about equitable transportation, public health, economic mobility, or sustainability, we need you in this fight. Help us spread the word. Reach out to impact officers, elected officials, and community leaders who can help secure the future of zero fare. Let's keep Richmond moving—free and fair. Hope to see you there! #ZeroFare #PublicTransit #TransitEquity #GRTC #RichmondVA #FreeToMove

  • Many of our favorite local business can encounter challenges with energy efficiency. Most recently, we had the chance to visit and perform an energy audit for SCRAP Creative Reuse: A local gem for the Richmond craft community. 🎨🪡🧶 As we entered the store we were immediately greeted with bright sunshine, which led to our first big discovery. ☀️ Due to heat coming through the window, Scrap RVA has to leave the AC running all year round, even in the winter! We're ecstatic to hear that Scrap RVA is already taking action to install a window film to reduce those challenges. Next up, C3 will help them upgrade their backroom lighting—boosting efficiency and brightness providing better lighting for ScrapRVA's classes. 💡✨ Interested in C3's climate services? • About last Saturday night... 🥳We had a BLAST attending Studio Two Three's Sad Prom. 💃🕺🏼 The happiest sad prom to date! Though the realities of losing federal support remain ongoing for many of our community partners, the wealth that is community solidarity makes all the difference! With Sad Prom, the Studio was able to raise over $22,000 to support their purchase of a new HVAC system! What a fun, heartwarming example of community coming together to help meet community needs. 💚 Didn't make it to Prom? See how you still offer support to Studio Two Three: https://ow.ly/G2Wk50Vk4NG
