We all have a story to tell. I desire that when people recall my story, they see me as a person who thoroughly enjoys helping people become their best selves. My passion for people is only rivaled by my passion for the HR profession. Over the last couple of weeks, I have enjoyed developing multiple teams of HR professionals, teaching, encouraging, and challenging them to new heights. That's why I'm thrilled during this time of year, as hundreds of volunteers put the finishing touches on one of the country's largest gatherings of HR professionals, The HRSouthwest Conference hosted by Dallas HR. This event is a treasure trove of knowledge and networking opportunities, and I can't wait to share it with you. For several years, I have been honored to emcee this event and lead sessions teaching the latest research on people and culture. This year is notable for several reasons, as my dear friend, Ben Utecht, is the closing keynote speaker. Having Ben in the house will be EPIC! Moreover, I will be leading two sessions, one of which is an HR Executive Breakfast. In this session, I will be unveiling new insights into talent management based on the last several years of research, challenging some of our current ways of thinking about developing our talent. If you lead an HR team, you won't want to miss this opportunity to be part of this transformative conversation. You can register here and invest in writing the next chapter of your story: https://lnkd.in/g5wKYRpy #LearnNetworkGrow #HRLife Jimmy Taylor, SPHR The Encompass Group #followership #leadership #culture #HRSW2024 #ThisWillBeEpic #YourStoryMatters

The next pillar of talent attraction and retention is Leader Development.  One of the most pivotal models that we personally follow and recommend to all other businesses comes from the minds of Tony Bridwell, EdD, MBA and Robert Rich, SPHR, SHRM-SCP : The Curious Coaching Model Developing your employees into effective leaders and followers is a journey that comes with inevitable challenges. To navigate these hurdles and turn them into opportunities for growth, the Curious Coaching Model is an invaluable tool that fosters clear communication and productive dialogue. Here’s how it works: 1. Curiosity: Begin the conversation from a place of curiosity, asking questions to better understand how the person you are talking to is viewing/understanding the situation at hand. Remember, never assume that you know all that there is to know.  2. Complimentary: Next, highlight what is working well in the situation. This approach builds your employee’s confidence and encourages openness while reducing defensiveness.  3. Constructive: The idea of being constructive includes thinking critically in a manner that constructively moves you toward your desired outcome. This is not a critique but an opportunity to rethink or reframe thinking to build upon strengths.  4. Curious: Conclude by returning to curiosity. Ask clarifying questions to ensure a thorough understanding of the situation and to identify any additional areas for exploration.  The Curious Coaching Model, when utilized effectively, can revolutionize your leadership conversations, empowering the emerging leaders in your organization to reach their full potential. To learn more about this model and more, check out Dr. Bridwell’s new book, The Follower Effect: A Story About Flipping the Script on Leadership.

Research shows: one of the top 3 reasons people leave their jobs is a lack of development opportunities. To retain and transform talent effectively, organizations must broaden their approach to learning and development, recognizing that one size does not fit all. Transformation in talent management is about more than just training; it's about creating a comprehensive learning culture that evolves through various stages: Mandatory Training: - Purpose: Meets legal and regulatory requirements. - Example: Annual ethics and safety training. Role-Specific Training: - Purpose: Aligns with specific job roles. - Example: Customer service representatives receive targeted training on product knowledge and communication skills. Empowered Development: - Purpose: Encourages active participation in learning. - Example: Offering tuition reimbursement to employees for further education. Holistic Development: - Purpose: Integrates learning into daily routines and promotes cross-functional collaboration. - Example: Regular cross-departmental learning sessions. Innovative Transformation: - Purpose: Connects learning initiatives to strategic goals and innovation. - Example: A dedicated team explores emerging technologies and industry trends. Key Takeaway: To truly transform talent, organizations must look at development through a broader lens to create a more dynamic and effective strategy. This approach not only addresses the diverse needs of your workforce but also fosters a culture of continuous growth. By integrating these strategies, you can transform your workforce and ensure long-term success in a rapidly changing business landscape. #Employeedevelopment #employeetraining #Talentretention
