Education Administration Programs

Envisions an America where every child has the support of a tutor to enable them to realize their full human potential

About us

The GO Foundation is a non-profit organization with the mission of preparing students for college success through high-dosage tutoring. By design, GO's partner schools contribute to the vitality of the urban neighborhoods where they are located by attracting and creating social, human and investment capital. What sets GO's partner schools apart from others is a high-dosage tutoring model, which is delivered through the GO Fellowship, a selective cadre of recent college graduates who deliver at least two hours of individualized instruction to every student every day. The GO Foundation has successfully replicated this program in Newark, NJ, Bridgeport, CT, New York, NY, and Washington D.C.

Our GO Fellows were recently featured in a Washington Monthly article on tutoring programs that are shrinking the achievement gap. The proof is in the data, GO Fellows make a huge difference in their students’ learning. “Great Oaks students who started the 2022–23 school year at the 25th percentile or below in math ended the year at the 43rd percentile, on average. And by supporting teachers in their classrooms—AmeriCorps tutors also prepare instructional materials, proctor exams, and grade assignments—and relieving them of many of the non-teaching duties that can make the profession so draining, the Great Oaks tutoring strategy keeps teachers teaching and sources new talent: Half the school’s teachers started as tutors.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gEMXwZpG

Learn more about what a Fellow does every day! “As a Fellow, in a typical day I assist a lot in our classroom space during instruction, I’ll take notes for the students, I’ll do one-on-one help, and assist with lectures sometimes”

Meet incoming Fellow Tekeyah (she/her) who will be serving in Newark this fall. Tekeyah applied for the fellowship to enable a career change. While trying to figure out her purpose, she decided she wanted to help children get their education. Tekeyah’s mom really emphasized the importance of education. Learn more below! Why are you excited to start? To start a new career working with children! Favorite way to connect w/ students? I love just talking with them and getting to know them better. So many kids feel like adults don’t listen to them and simply want to be heard.

I'm happy to share that I have officially completed my Year of Service with AmeriCorps & GO Foundation at Digital Pioneers Academy! A huge thank you is owed to Divinda Willis and Niles Jones for coaching and supporting me in my first year as an educator. Also, I'm so grateful to have worked alongside STEM teachers and leaders like Rodney Brownell, MAT,MPH, Olivia Martino, MBA, and Ms. Tamare Brown! Initially, I did not believe I could excel as a math tutor. I left undergrad with a degree in Sociology and Spanish, two humanities majors. When I was the age of my students, I struggled to grasp the same concepts in math that I tutored them in. Yet, with consistent on-site support and guidance, many of my students' test scores and GPAs grew. Most ended the year by telling me their math confidence also grew! I'm glad I was led to serve the Southeast DC and DPA community. I sincerely look forward to continuing my public service career in the roles to come!

Meet incoming Fellow Khaalik (he/him) who will be serving in Boston this fall. Khaalik is most excited to encourage students to embrace math and push past their belief that most of math taught in high school isn’t used in “real life.” In fact, Khaalik will show students next fall that math is universal, an international common language. Learn more below! Why apply? To not only help high school kids better understand math, but to spread my mathematical optimism so that students won’t look at math as a “hard” or an “annoying” subject. Favorite way to connect w/ students? Through music! You can tell a lot about someone through their musical taste, and even if I’m not familiar with an artist, the genre immediately has the possibility to show something about their personality.
