Awesome news! Two of the UK’s largest government funding bodies – the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and Innovate UK – are investing £15 million in an innovation centre aimed at accelerating the commercialization of plant-based, cultivated and fermentation-made foods. “It is welcome to see the UK government making another significant investment in alternative proteins, bringing together scientific and business experts to accelerate the development of foods that can help boost our food security and create new green jobs," said The Good Food Institute Europe's UK policy manager Linus Pardoe. ✅ India's Union Cabinet has approved the Department of Biotechnology's #BioE3 policy focused on building a resilient bioeconomy, which explicitly calls out alternative proteins as a key pillar to this national strategy. With the overarching goal of fostering high-performance biomanufacturing in India, the policy will address national priorities through innovation-driven support in R&D and entrepreneurship across six thematic sectors including #alternativeproteins. In addition to prioritizing biomanufacturing in the region, the policy aims to expand India's skilled workforce and create new job opportunities. This is a massive victory for India's alt protein sector as the nation increasingly prioritizes alternative proteins as an essential solution needed to meet the world’s climate, global health, and food security goals. 🎉 Kudos to The Good Food Institute India's Sneha Singh and the rest of the GFI India team for their work getting alternative proteins on the agenda of policymakers in India! The Northeastern U.S. is a forested and urban landscape with a big potential role to play in climate mitigation. Diversifying the American protein supply with alternative proteins can help reach that potential. Our new analysis shows that a 50% shift to alternative proteins could enable restoration of 5 million acres of forest land and nearly 1 million acres of wetlands, significantly increasing the region's natural habitats. Download our Transforming Land Use report for more about restoration and carbon sequestration opportunities in the Northeast and other regions of the U.S.: https://bit.ly/4ckiqnd

🚨 Major milestone: A dedicated center for alternative protein research and innovation has launched today at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Why is this a pivotal moment? “With meat demand skyrocketing across the world’s most populous continent, the opportunity for large-scale transformation in Asia’s food supply has never been greater,” shared Mirte Gosker, managing director of The Good Food Institute APAC. “By connecting Singapore’s brightest scientific minds with their counterparts in other global innovation hubs, the Bezos Centre at NUS has the capacity to fully unlock the enormous economic and ecological potential of sustainable proteins.” Read more → https://nus.edu/47dXTjc Supported by a $30 million grant from the Bezos Earth Fund, the NUS Centre will lead groundbreaking research and commercialization efforts to develop next-generation alternative proteins that match conventional meat products in taste and price. The Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at NUS joins two other Bezos Centers at North Carolina State University and Imperial College London launched in 2024, forming a global network of alternative protein research centers. In partnership with the Bezos Earth Fund, GFI’s team of scientists and other experts helped identify and assess the institutions best primed to pursue research tackling the biggest challenges and opportunities ahead, including: ⚒️ Biomanufacturing scale-up 🌾 Crop diversification & optimization 🌱 Ingredient innovations for taste, price, & nutrition of alternative proteins 🌎 Environmental & social impact analyses 🚜 New farmer opportunities ⭐ Next-generation workforce development Congratulations to NUS on today's launch and cheers to the growing network of institutions and individuals advancing #alternativeproteins as an essential solution to meet the world’s climate, global health, food security, and biodiversity goals. 🎉
