During this last week of #NationalBookMonth, we wrap our 20th book fair of the semester! Each semester, we host a free book fair at all of our partner schools, because we believe in the power of books to improve literacy, shape character, and spark the imagination. Special thanks to KPMG US's Family for Literacy, which helps fund and provide volunteers for our book fairs every year at Patrick Henry Elementary and Woodland Elementary! Contact us to learn how you can get involved with these fun and rewarding events. #Volunteer

About us
Established in 2001, The Little Bit Foundation is committed to breaking down barriers to learning for students living in poverty through partnerships and programs that serve the needs of the whole child. Our aim is to empower students to achieve their academic goals and dreams for the future, while leaving an imprint of love and hope on young lives for whom a little bit means a lot. in 42 schools and serving 14,000 students a year, our 200+ staff and volunteers develop strong partnerships with sponsored schools to offer consistent, empowering hope to children in need. Our presence in the schools, working one-on-one with each child, combined with providing necessities such as clothing, shoes and coats, ensures each child’s personal dignity and has the power to change lives.

This. More than $100,000 in college scholarships were awarded to students during Day 1 of our What's Next College and Career Fair last Friday (sponsored by Citi) and we could not be more excited for them! Nearly 500 students from 11 schools came through to talk with representatives from industry and institutions about their future. If you'd like to meet with our next cohort of students, there's still time to register as a vendor for Day 2 on October 17 and be that someone who could change a life! Deadline to RSVP is the 14th: https://lnkd.in/ge9qdFrh. #whatsnext #collegeandcareerready #StudentFutures

That's a wrap on Day 1 of our What's Next College and Career Fair! Students from 10 different middle and high schools showed up today at Harris-Stowe State University to engage with nearly 50 vendors and learn about various industries and possibilities for their future. The day kicked off with a brief workshop and panel discussion on how to maximize their time at the fair. The students were encouraged to "be a sponge" and soak up all the information they could, and heard that networking is the greatest tool they have in developing their career path. Excited for Day 2 of this community-wide event, coming up on October 17 at Flo Valley! #whatsnext #careerfair #collegeandcareerready

It takes ALL of us. Thank you to the team at Old National Bank!
For day 1 of Better Together Days, our Old National Bank Team volunteered at The Little Bit Foundation! We learned about The Little Bit Foundation’s Whole Model Child approach that focuses on five key areas; Essentials, Academic Equity and Enrichment, Health and Nutrition, College and Career Readiness, and Wellness and Family Support. Then we got to work unboxing hundreds of brand-new colorful Fila sneakers!! Each box of sneakers we opened was a new color, style and shape. When kids get brand-new shoes that fit right, they’re more eager to participate, have confidence and be socially engaged! The fun and laughter we shared as a team unboxing these sneakers will be passed along to the children wearing these colorful Filas. Thank you to The Little Bit Foundation for hosting our team of Deb Stump, JD, Jean Niemczyk, Rhoads Hall, Edin Salkic, David Wilsdorf, Nicholas Niemi, Warren Graeff and for all the great work you do in our community! #BetterTogether, #Volunteer, #ONBProud

Each year at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge, a Breakthrough Award is presented to the team who demonstrates they understand that what they discover is more important than what they win. Danforth Elementary walked away with the award from this year’s Riverview Gardens district-wide challenge in May, a fitting recognition of the team’s determination throughout the season, says Jim Henry, team co-captain. “They were a small but mighty core group, who worked through some setbacks and showed a significant turnaround from the qualifiers in January,” says Henry, Project Management Analyst for LUZCO Technologies LLC. “I was really proud of them.” Read more and learn how your company can support an FLL team this year: https://lnkd.in/gxej_5ry

A huge shout-out and thank-you to Dr. Candice Cox for sharing with students last week during our first Virtual Transferable Skills Seminar of the school year! Dr. Cox defined for students the different types of stress, broke down trauma responses, addressed Adverse Childhood Experiences, and introduced the KHAOS mindset. She says, "The students walked away knowing that nothing is wrong with them but understanding there are some things that may have happened in their lives that have changed them and the way they interact with the world around them!"
