About us
Launched in 2015, The Public Interest Fellowship draws on the legacy of that great journal of ideas and policy founded by Daniel Bell and Irving Kristol. The Public Interest nourished generations of individuals dedicated to meeting the moral and political challenges of the day through the rigorous study of contemporary America and the recovery of the enduring principles of the American constitutional tradition. Conceived in that spirit, The Public Interest Fellowship provides exceptional young men and women who are interested in politics, policy, and journalism with professional opportunities and a continuing education in the principles of American constitutional government and the modern tradition of freedom. The unique combination of work and study is designed to advance fellows’ pursuit of careers devoted to enriching the political and cultural life of the United States.

Of the six programs that make up TPIF, the Security and Strategy Seminar is by far the largest with over 80 fellows. It’s also one of the best partnerships we could ask for, working alongside the team at The Alexander Hamilton Society. We’re excited for another year studying each of America’s adversaries and the challenges facing the DoD.
Last night, the Alexander Hamilton Society and The Public Interest Fellowship co-hosted the Security and Strategy Seminar (SSS) opening dinner in Washington, D.C. for the 2024-2025 cohort. Fellows had the opportunity to connect with members of their cohort, upcoming seminar instructors, and engage with Dr. Stephen Rosen, Visiting Professor at Columbia University, who addressed the fellows on strategic competition and what it means to win the competition. We look forward to a thought-provoking year ahead with the fellows. Last week fellows in our Military History and Strategy Fellowship travelled to Europe to study America's involvement in WWII. For the first time in MHS, we incorporated the Italian Campaign into our staff ride. Fellows followed the path of American forces in 1943-45 studying the battles at San Pietro and Monte Cassino, the landings at Anzio and Nettuno, and the liberation of Rome. Afterwards, fellows traveled to Normandy to study Operation Overlord and then on to Munich and Nuremberg to better understand the rise of Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, and the aftermath of the war. "In great deeds something abides. On great fields, something stays. Forms change and pass; bodies disappear, but spirits linger, to consecrate ground for the vision-place of souls. And reverent men and women from afar, and generations that know us not and that we know not of, heart-drawn to see where and by whom great things were suffered and done for them. " Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, 1889 The Military History and Strategy Fellowship will open for applications this fall for the coursework and staff rides taking place in Summer 2025.
