About us
Mission Statement The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Who We Are Our New Jersey Divisional Headquarters is located in Union, NJ and operates under the leadership of Majors James and Sue Betts. This administrative headquarters oversees all operations and programs for service-providing units of The Salvation Army throughout the State of New Jersey. To effectively minister and serve within such a large area, the New Jersey Division has 28 Corps Worship & Community Centers which are the most basic service components of The Salvation Army, providing religious and social services adapted to the needs of their communities. The New Jersey Division also has the The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Newark Ironbound and Senior Center, one residential camp (Tecumseh) in Pittstown, NJ, three shelters (Elizabeth, Montclair and Perth Amboy) and 101 active service units (comprised of approximately 700 volunteers who administer Salvation Army services where there is no Army facility). In addition to Corps Worship & Community Centers and service extension units, there are three Adult Rehabilitation Centers and approximately 20 Salvation Army Thrift (or Family) Stores. Proceeds from Thrift Stores support the Adult Rehabilitation Centers throughout the state.

“Today, we celebrate the many wonderful years we have had the honor of serving in the City of Camden and beyond. There are many thousands of individuals and families who now call this place ‘home’ and find real meaning, opportunity, love, and support here – thank you for believing in our vision and coming together to make it a reality.” The Salvation Army Camden Kroc marked its 10th anniversary by hosting a diverse set of events with the local community. In total, 6,500 individuals were served from the greater Camden region throughout the celebratory weekend which included: ⭐ The rededication of the Camden Kroc Center and the unveiling of a commemorative mural created by We Live Here Artist Collective titled " Yesterday, Today and Forever" highlighting The Salvation Army's impact in Camden, NJ since 1880. ⭐ A drive-thru food distribution for 3,000 people who received shelf-stable food, produce, proteins, reusable bags, and a hot dog lunch. ⭐ KrocFest, the Center’s largest indoor-outdoor festival since opening in 2014. More than 100 partner agencies and institutions joined in the festivities to provide entertainment, programs and services to 3,000 community members. A huge thank you to all our partners, sponsors, and committee members who made this celebration so special!

The Salvation Army response teams have been on the ground providing support to areas affected by Hurricane Helene. Dozens of canteens have mobilized across the southeast to provide thousands of meals and drinks to those in recovery, along with thousands of contacts who are offering emotional and spiritual care. We thank all of you who are supporting our efforts. This level of response would not be possible without your contributions. Visit helpsalvationarmy.org to directly support those recovering from Helene. #HopeIsOnTheWay #DisasterRelief #DoingTheMostGood #Helene

Meet the Jersey City Kings basketball team from the Salvation Army Jersey City Corps! Healthy minds and healthy bodies are both crucial elements of youth development. Our no-fee and low-cost after-school programs offer children a chance to play #sports and learn athletic skills. The kids love having fun on the court, and they also learn the essentials of #teamwork and other skills that will stay with them for a lifetime.

“It helps me a lot to have diapers available for my babies. The Salvation Army has been helping me on a monthly basis with a supply of diapers to keep my baby healthy and happy. It helps me economically as well.” – Iris, mother of four children. Today, nearly half of families with young children can’t afford the diapers they need. Babies without clean diapers are exposed to more health risks and less likely to be accepted to daycare centers, leaving parents unable to work. Thank you Joanna Gagis and NJ Spotlight News for highlighting how The Salvation Army Trenton Citadel Corps is helping families with their diaper pantry, which has distributed nearly 18,000 diapers and wipes to more than 450 Trenton children this year alone.
