Did you know today, Sept. 28, is #NationalGoodNeighborDay? Created as a local initiative in Montana during the early 1970s, this annual celebration recognizes the importance of being a good neighbor while providing the opportunity to better get to know those who live around us. While National Good Neighbor Day was designed with those who reside in the same area in mind, it’s just as applicable for those of us who share a common workspace. Considering the number of hours we spend together each day in such close proximity, being a good office neighbor can have just as large an impact on our everyday lives. Included below are several tips from #TeamAdmin designed to help us all be a good office neighbor. While these tips cover a variety of areas, there is a common theme… be considerate and respectful of everyone around you. • Don’t barge into someone’s work area. Be respectful, knock first and ask if it’s a good time. • Avoid loud talking or personal conversations that may distract others. • Avoid using a speakerphone when on a Teams call. • Keep device ringtones at a minimum. • Don’t yell across the room. Instead, consider visiting the person, calling, emailing or sending a Teams message. • Don’t talk through cubicle walls or congregate outside someone’s work area. For impromptu meetings, go to a conference room or break room. • Don’t borrow something from a co-worker's work area without asking first. • Clean up after yourself in common areas such as kitchens, conference rooms and restrooms. • Avoid strong smells such as fragrances, nail polish, etc. Your neighbors may have allergies or sensitivities. • If you’re not feeling well, consider staying home. We all share the same space, so keeping each other in mind throughout the day can go a long way toward developing a positive working environment for everyone. What are ways you're a good office neighbor? Let us know in the comments!
