The last session of Accomplices in Action was a highlight! 👏 We engaged in a lively discussion about power, particularly the unique power that white women hold within societal structures—a power that can either perpetuate or challenge systemic issues.    White women often find themselves at the helm of making sure the family functions smoothly. They're raising the next generation of white citizens, managing countless responsibilities, and often juggling work on top of it all. Naturally, there's a lot to be frustrated about. This frustration has become so well-known that it's become a meme—"The Karens." Nobody wants to get in the way of a Karen demanding to speak to the manager.   But what if that energy—the let-me-speak-to-the-manager energy—could be channeled into something more positive? Something that drives real change? And that's when everyone realized just how much power they have and how they can use it to truly challenge the systems we're all working against. There was a lot of enthusiasm about figuring out how to harness that energy. How would you do it?   Accomplices in Action continues until November 2nd. Hope to see you next session, this Saturday August 17th from 8 to 9 AM CDT.  If you are a white woman and want to join this space for the first time, register here: https://lnkd.in/eXjrwyfS   Past attendees, remember to check your email for confirmation instructions. I had a great time with you last Saturday! Thank you, Liz Schumacher, Ann Rainhart, Traci Norum, Leslie J. Morse, Heidi Morgan, Kate Tropman McRoberts, Mary Halet, MA, CPPM, Sarah Edwards, Kathleen Brenk, SPHR (she/her), Lacee Be, and all who joined us!

I am so grateful to have spoken with my friend, Seena Hodges, about the importance of commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in business. Seena is a force to be reckoned with in the DEI space. If you haven't read her book, From Ally to Accomplice: How to Lead as a Fierce Anti-Racist, now's the time to pick it up. Then, hire her to come in and inspire your people. We must realize our full potential by rejecting the status quo. In this context, the 'status quo' means maintaining systems that were not created for everyone. It's our job to deconstruct and recognize our role in perpetuating these systems so that we can evolve, grow, and abandon them—both as individuals and as businesses. DEI pushback is short-sighted and sad. Being intentional about inclusion means working to level a playing field historically tilted to favor particular groups. The data proves that inclusive workplaces have higher employee satisfaction, better retention rates, and increased productivity. This benefits everyone at work, not just those from underrepresented groups. Leaders must summon the courage to navigate discomfort and conflict in this moment of heightened tension. While there are compelling business reasons to pursue inclusion, my conscience serves as my guide. The path to a more inclusive future may not lead to short-term gains, and that's where my values are my north star. My business instincts are inextricably intertwined with my humanity. I recognize that we can't please everyone, nor should we try to be all things to everyone. Some may be disappointed by our choices, but I'm at peace knowing that my decisions stem from a place of justice and a vision for a better future. For all of us. Thanks, Seena, for being a guiding light in our community.

Think about today's business role models: who immediately comes to mind? You might think of several names at first. Sure, they all run money-making businesses, but how many address inequity within their organizations? How many are taking a bold and courageous stand against racism and all forms of discrimination in the workplace? So, are they really successfully running their business? 🤔 In unprecedented times, business leaders are confronted with navigating societal upheaval, adapting to ever-changing environments, and thriving in the face of uncertainty. Traditional leadership methods just won't cut it anymore. We must redefine our business role models and prioritize those embodying the inclusivity and cultural competence needed for today's challenges. A fundamental shift in how this new breed of leaders operates is in forming a powerful framework for long-term business success where ethical considerations and business outcomes are harmoniously aligned. They see inclusion as the key to unlocking their team's full potential. This, in turn, cultivates the capacity to withstand and thrive amidst adversity and innovate in response to change. They understand that only cohesive, dynamic teams can navigate the complexities of today's business world, making inclusion essential to a healthy, thriving organization. True inclusion can't be achieved without equity or diversity, and they lead with this in mind. They foster trust and loyalty by breaking down barriers, building a culture of psychological safety, and creating a workplace environment where employees feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued. With these qualities in mind, which leaders would you now consider as true business role models? I'll give you a name. Nancy Lyons! 🤌✨ I recently spoke with Nancy, the CEO of Clockwork and client partner of The Woke Coach, LLC for my FORWARD newsletter with Twin Cities Business. Her leadership is both inspiring and necessary in today's business landscape. She is an award-winning businesswoman who is as committed to inclusive and equitable leadership as she is to driving success for her company. What is she doing right? 👏 She leans on inclusion to build greater business resilience and adaptability. 👏 She upholds equity and inclusion as a steadfast leadership approach. 👏 She is creating a workplace that truly welcomes all perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. Our conversation was so refreshing. Take a read: https://lnkd.in/gFPMh9fP As we continue to think about what it means to lead in uncertain times, it's important to open the dialogue about how you lead, what comes next, and what role inclusion should continue to play in the future. Note for you all: I'm here to help any company, team, or individual looking to build this kind of leadership! 🧡
