🚀 Are you coaching leaders who are tasked with moving the needle on engagement and impact? There’s a chain of influence: 🔹 individual leaders and teams contribute to the system as a whole, 🔹 the history of the organization also shapes the system, 🔹 as do the organization’s customers, suppliers, regulators, and more. 🤯 With so many factors at play, it can seem overwhelming to determine how to influence engagement and impact. Where do you start? 🔹 Do you start with values and vision? 🔹 Is it hinged on diversity and inclusion? 🔹 Is it leadership development? 👥 We invite coaches working with leaders/teams to begin with: THE PERSON YOU HAVE THE MOST INFLUENCE OVER—YOURSELF! 💭 We’ve learned that our “Connect and Create” model and the concept of “Self as Instrument” are failsafe tools to fluidly regulate Thinking Agility and Emotion Agility. This ensures you can access a Blue Zone state, at will. 💡 When operating from Blue Zone, coaching conversations with leaders will deepen to include: • not just the Situation to be solved (the “WHAT”), but • the Self to be evolved (the “WHO” of the leader). In turn, the leader’s growing self-awareness equips them to become “Leader as Instrument.” From this position, they are better able to Connect and Create engagement and impact across a variety of challenging topics. 🦉 Interested in learning to coach the WHO? Our next Certified Leadership Engagement & Impact Coach Course (approved for Level 1 and Level 2 ICF training) starts Wednesdays | November 13, 2024 | 9:00 - 10:30am PT! #brainfriendlycoaching #coaching #neuroscience #leadership #leadershipcoaching #engagement #impact #ICFLevel1Training #ICFLevel2Training #coachtraining #coacheducation #ICF

👥 Strengths can be incorporated at every stage of the coaching conversation. Invite clients into a meaningful conversation with some of these questions/observations: 📆 Agenda / Session Agreements • What values/strengths is this challenge highlighting? • What makes this topic meaningful in light of your strengths/values? How does this topic relate to your strengths? • What strengths do you want to lean on as we explore this topic? • This seems like a situation where your strength of Relator will shine! How could you see it showing up? 🔭 Awareness • What impact can your strengths have on this challenge? • Just observing that you are thinking this through very intentionally…sounds like your Deliberate strength is at play. What is it like to notice it in action? • What strengths could you draw on here? • You’ve mentioned your feelings of being ‘out of your league’ several times. What strengths could help you feel IN the league? 🎬 Application / Action • What strengths can support you in effectively acting on this? • Your energy seemed to drop as you shared that plan. What did you notice?...What might be a way to tackle it that incorporates your strengths? • How can your strength of [x] support you as you… (e.g., address the team’s conflict, facilitate that meeting, prepare for that networking meeting, etc.)? • It sounds like you are tackling this with your full Adaptability! • I want to acknowledge you for the way you navigated this conversation. From uncertainty at the beginning, to leaning into your strength of Futuristic and Achiever to find authentic ways to move forward. 🧬 Strengths are part-and-parcel of a client’s DNA. They are always there–ready to be nurtured, strengthened, and leveraged. 💪🏾 Looking to deepen your skills in strengths-based coaching? 🧠 Neuro-coaching tip! Ambivalence is always present in change. Navigating that space is essential for the brain. 🧭 There’s something new to move toward that needs explored AND 🌬️ There’s something old to deconstruct, relinquish, honor Skipping the ambivalence discussion is a recipe for the brain to ruminate unconsciously, robbing energy that could be channeled toward the new. 💪🏾 Looking to deepen your skills in strengths-based coaching? The connection/relationship between Strengths and Shadow work?! Listening recently to This Jungian Life podcast on Shadow Work (https://hubs.li/Q02SNlRD0), the discussion led me to realize: You CANNOT do shadow work WITHOUT first having a HEALTHY ego intact! In other words, we can’t look at the stuff in our personality that holds us back without… 🤔knowing that we have what it takes to face it 💪and do something about it. This reminded me of STRENGTHS, and How important strengths are for a healthy and balanced ego. Often the mention of ‘ego’ gets a bad rap—as if it’s something entirely negative and narcissistic.👿 Here’s the good side of a healthy and balanced ego: > a sense of self-efficacy > brings confidence and > helps navigate tough challenges and achieve goals. APPLICATION: How can we support clients with this confidence and certainty? 🔭 In Discovery Sessions: Ask what the client sees as their strengths, or assessments they’ve done that point to strengths. 🔎 During Sessions: Acknowledge Clients’ Strengths During Sessions (consider experimenting with 2-3x per session and notice how the client responds) 📈 Near Close of Sessions: Notice how client is proposing to use strengths to facilitate growth and learning; invite them to consider which strengths will be of most support in action steps Looking to deepen your skills in strengths-based coaching? 💪🏾 Our next Academies Certified Strength Coach Course starts October 29th, Tuesdays, 2:00 - 3:30pm PT! ℹ️ Learn more about the course: https://hubs.li/Q02SMMXg0 🗓️ Register & Schedule: https://hubs.li/Q02SN83p0

Every coaching client (leaders, students, career changers) can benefit from the confidence that comes from strengths! The neuroscience is clear. Strengths are energizing to use because… 😁 They promote positive emotions, such as 🔹 pride, 🔹 hope, 🔹 interest, and 🔹 inspiration. 🧠 These emotions create the biological high of the Blue Zone, with a surge of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and epinephrine associated with… 🔹 motivation, 🔹 confidence, and 🔹 resilience. ➡ Although strategies for getting from point A to point B is part of the coaching conversation, solely focusing on the tactics to fix a problem (especially if they are NOT rooted in the client’s strengths) can be a quick path to the Red Zone of analysis paralysis and scarcity thinking. 💪🏾 Everyone wants to feel strong. ⚙️ Support the process. 🏋🏾♀️ Coach to strengths. 💸 If you have professional development funds that will expire soon, we have the perfect solution. 👻 Coaches: Do your clients scare you? We’d probably like to all say “No!” But here are a few clues that point to being in the Red Zone. If your… 💓 heart beats faster than you’d like 🤔 mind wanders to unpleasant memories —or it doesn’t consciously, but does unconsciously 👔 chest or neck tightens 😮💨 breathing becomes inconsistent 😱 …chances are good that your clients DO scare you! ❌ And if we’re scared, the physiological reaction of fight-flight, The Red Zone, has kicked in. 🦋 THE BLUE ZONE RESPONSE: 🫨 When a client is scared — things look overwhelming, unmanageable, uncertain, and threatening to their reputation, finances, career, etc. — be IN the experience with them. If we can face the threat, and remain empathetic yet empowered, it supports the client to do the same–to begin to “manage the unmanageable.” For example, the coach might say: “I hear it.” “I sense the weight.” “I can feel the tension myself as you describe it.” “Understandable that this would bring some concerns.” “Wow. That’s a lot.” “How ARE you, really?” “How has this affected other parts of your life?” “What support do you need to begin to navigate this?” If we cannot face the threat, and slip into cheerleading, ignoring emotions, or driving towards action, we paper over the reality of the client’s experience. And that prevents the client from evolving their capacity to manage the unmanageable. Looking to be more effective in coaching leaders? 📊 New research from ICF and PricewaterhouseCoopers reveals an increasing demand for mental well-being support in coaching and the reasons behind this shift. 👩🏼💻 Currently, 26% of coaches report that over half of their clients seek help in the area of well-being, and 👩🏼💻 72% of internal coaches agree that additional training is vital to meet this need. The data within the report are even more telling of this trend. Get the report free as a member of ICF here ($149 for non-members): https://hubs.li/Q02Rs1LX0 💫 These trends align with The Academies’ training philosophy of coaching the WHO and not just the WHAT (the challenge/problem). The WHO refers to the client’s values, strengths, belief systems, identity, culture, and more. 🎨 In essence: “WHO” is the heartbeat of the client, the source of creativity, capability, and clarity of purpose 🦉 Interested in learning to coach the WHO?
