Stay Safe This #Halloween! 🎃🚧 Halloween should be about fun, not tragedy. In 2022, 72 people lost their lives in traffic crashes on Halloween night alone. Alarmingly, 46% of those fatalities were linked to alcohol-related crashes. Let’s make sure we all celebrate safely. Plan to avoid drinking and driving. Between 2018 and 2022, there were 386 fatalities on Halloween night, with over half of the vehicle occupants involved being intoxicated. The 21-34 age group was particularly affected, accounting for 54% of drunk-driving fatalities. This #Halloween let’s prioritize safety and ensure a fun night for everyone. Drive sober, stay alert, and watch out for trick-or-treaters! #Halloween2024 #DriveSober #StayAlert

We control the choices we make behind the wheel. When we call traffic crashes "accidents," we suggest they're unpreventable and beyond our control. Let's change that mindset. The Broward Safety Action Plan (BSAP) urges everyone to recognize the responsibility we each have on the road. Remember, roadway incidents are preventable, not inevitable. Use crash, not accident. To learn how you can get involved, visit https://lnkd.in/gT-6zYiq and share some of your community's safety concerns. #BrowardSafetyActionPlan #TravelSafeBroward #VisionZero

Broward MPO is providing technical assistance to the City of Lauderhill in developing a Transportation Master Plan (TMP). This plan will identify improvements for all modes of transportation: walking, using assistive devices, biking, transit, and driving. We need your input! Take the brief online survey by December 15 to help prioritize roadways and inform the changes that matter most to you. Your feedback will ensure the TMP reflects the community's needs. This morning, our Executive Director Gregory Stuart, joined his colleagues from the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization, and the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (TPA), at the Southeast Florida Transportation Council (SEFTC) meeting. #SEFTC is a formal partnership comprised of representatives from each MPO Board that meets two to four times a year. These meetings play a crucial role in policy coordination, communication, and regional planning for all transportation modes. This includes creating regional transportation plans for the tri-county area, prioritizing regional projects, enhancing transit and freight systems, boosting public involvement, measuring performance, and improving regional transportation programs. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impacts of this collaboration on our community! #BrowardMPO #MiamiDadeTPO #PalmBeachTPA #Collaboration #Teamwork #RegionalPlanning #PublicInvolvement

Exciting news to share! On October 15, the Broward MPO, along with the Capacity Building Team featuring WSP, Accelerator for America, and MHCP COLAB, held the first in-person Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) workshop. We welcomed 100 guests, including elected officials, city managers, and agency representatives. The event featured a forum on the benefits and misconceptions of TOD, and offered interactive sessions where attendees shared feedback on existing conditions, opportunities, and challenges. Thanks to last year’s U.S. Department of Transportation U.S. Department of Transportation Thriving Communities Program award, the Broward MPO is equipped to provide TOD technical support to local municipalities. In collaboration with community partners, we're developing a toolkit to help Central Broward cities enhance transit-oriented development, boosting economic opportunities and quality of life for residents. A big thank you to USDOT’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Mariia Zimmerman, for joining us from Washington DC. We also extend our gratitude to the City of Lauderhill and Vice Mayor Lawrence “Jabbow” Martin for hosting us at the City of Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, and to Circuit for sponsoring the event. This initiative is powered by the collective action and vision of our community leaders. Together, we can drive transformational development and lasting benefits for Central Broward. #TeamWork #USDOT #BrowardMPO #Transportation #GrantFunding
