Our program manager Caitlin Briody was honored to attend The Jed Foundation (JED)’s 25th anniversary gala yesterday. The Support Network is thankful for the partnership of The Jed Foundation through the years, including recognizing TSN founders Samuel Orley and Max Rothman as previous Student Voice of Mental Health awardees. We want to congratulate this year’s awardees Rick Yang and Areli Rosales, and look forward to following their journeys as leaders in the mental health space. Always a pleasure to spend time with fellow advocates including Kelly Davis, José Caballero, Jorge Alvarez, and Mahmoud Khedr. Thank you for all you do to support youth mental health!

Mental Health Advocate. Experienced Business Development, Customer Success, & Strategic Partnerships Professional.

A few of you may know this already, but mental health is a topic that is very near and dear to me. I struggled with depression, anxiety, and OCD for most of high school and college, but thanks to therapy, supportive friends and family members, medication, exercise, and some lifestyle changes, my mental health is now something that I manage, rather than get managed by! It’s an honor to be working with The Support Network to raise awareness for student mental health. The Support Network is working with over a dozen schools around the country to educate students on the importance of mental health and wellbeing through the implementation of peer-to-peer support groups on campus. I wish I had known about this back when I was in college, especially considering that it started at my alma mater, University of Michigan. It certainly would have been a great tool to help me navigate such a challenging time in my life. Anyway, I'm glad it's available and helping thousands of students across the nation! Thank you Sarah Dalley Samuel Orley & Max Rothman for getting me involved! If you struggled, or knew someone who struggled, (Unfortunately, that's probably everyone) and you have the means to donate a few dollars to supporting my team, it would mean so much! And, if you don't have the means, but woud like to share this post, that would also be deeply appreciated! https://lnkd.in/drx83Tg7 #mentalhealth #studentmentalhealth #supportgroup #peersupport #mentalhealthawareness

Today we honor and remember our friend, board member, and mental health advocate, Cooper Charlton. Cooper embodied a great passion for connection and community, and made a difference in so many peoples’ lives through his commitment to his work, relationships, and openness about his own mental health journey. Cooper co-founded Wolverine Support Network at the University of Michigan in 2014 and subsequently co-founded The Support Network in 2019. In his Senior year at Michigan, Cooper served as both Executive Director of Wolverine Support Network and Student Body President. Cooper was a visionary, a friend to all, an inspiration, and a wonderful human being who embodied his passion and zest for life each day. His impact continues to be felt every day at TSN as we strive to live up to his example, and through every student who benefits from The Support Network’s programs.

18-25 year olds experience the most mental health issues of any age group, and research shows college student mental health continues to worsen. But despite this, we’re feeling hopeful. More students are seeking help than ever before. And this semester we at TSN have watched our students become more articulate at voicing their needs, watched them commit deeply to their support networks even in the midst of national campus disengagement, and have witnessed them work together to build resilience in themselves and their peers, with 95% feeling like they have a community after being part of our program. During these past months TSN met with over 60 students, campus staff, alumni, donors, and members of our community, some multiple times, to discuss student mental health. We’ve heard some truly moving testimonies of the lives that have been touched by our programs, and are always humbled when people are willing to share their stories with us—and with you, if you attend our upcoming panel. On May 14th we’ll hear directly from students, staff, and alumni about the current state of student mental health and peer support. We’d love to see you there. https://lnkd.in/eVDqv7JW
