The Portland International Airport’s new terminal roof represents a monumental achievement for the #masstimber industry. We worked with ZGF Architects and Sustainable Northwest to ensure that the thousands of uniquely cut pieces of timber could be traced back to the forest of origin. Since opening in August, the project has welcomed thousands of visitors to the region and brilliantly showcases the rich history and current context of the Pacific Northwest timber industry. Timberlab's fabrication expertise was critical to the success of the Portland International Airport's mass timber roof structure, one of the largest installations of its kind in the United States. This project was one of the first to go through our Portland, Oregon facility, which was strategically located near the project site. That immediate proximity ensured meticulous quality control and streamlined logistics, enabling efficient delivery and installation. Leveraging CNC technology, Timberlab achieved the tight tolerances necessary for this intricate roof design, demonstrating the scalability and precision of mass timber for large-scale infrastructure projects. #PDXnext #masstimberconstruction #timberconstruction #timberengineering #timberbuilding #woodbuilding #glulam #crosslaminatedtimber #clt #cltbuilding #masstimberconference #forestproducts #forestindustry #forestproud #wooddesign #timberdesign #sustainablearchitecture #sustainabledesign Timberlab.com/projects/pdx Owner: Port of Portland Architect: ZGF Architects Engineer: KPFF Consulting Engineers GC: Hoffman Construction Company | Skanska Project Partners: ZIP-O-LAMINATORS LLC | Freres Wood | Swinerton | Sustainable Northwest Photos: FLOR Projects

A major milestone for the Portland International Airport (PDX) TCore Phase 2 project! Last week, the first roof module of Phase 2 was transported across the airfield and carefully moved into its final position over the following nights - a complex operation requiring precision, coordination, and a strong commitment to safety. This work was strategically performed at night to minimize impact on airport operations, thanks to the dedication of the crews who work tirelessly to make it happen. Their expertise and teamwork continue to shape the future of one of the country's top airports. We’re proud to be delivering this transformative project in joint venture with Skanska, and in close in partnership with Port of Portland. #PDXNext #HoffmanBuilds #flypdx

Sharing an exciting milestone as mass timber installation begins at the new School of Art & Design for Portland State University designed by LEVER Architecture. Our first glulam beam was lifted into place this morning... that leaves about 350 more to go! Our partners at Timberlab also installed all 92 columns with impressive speed and precision over just two days. Onward and upward.

The Chemeketa Community College Agriculture Complex in Salem, Oregon, was an early mass timber project for the state. Completed in 2019, the 15,000-square-foot academic building serves as a hub for teaching and learning, offering flexible learning and research areas. The structure prominently features locally sourced mass timber, including glulam columns and beams and MPP Panels for the roof. The project achieved Net Zero Energy status. Notably, the Chemeketa CC project was one of our team's first mass timber buildings as Swinerton Mass Timber. The structure will be featured during the 2025 International Mass Timber Conference Building Tours, offering attendees an opportunity to see this beautiful educational institution up close. There are still spots available! The Timberlab groundbreaking did more than just turn dirt. The 190,000 square foot facility will do more than create 75 family-wage jobs in #Oregon's southern Willamette Valley. #Masstimber does something few industries can; it connects us in new and much needed ways. As Thomas Robinson, FAIA so aptly put it, "This is not a project, it's a vision." Enjoy! And congrats again to all involved! Samuel Dicke Christopher Evans Jared M. Last week I had a full-circle moment both personally and professionally. On Thursday, February, 27th, Timberlab broke ground on our new $125 million, 200,000 square foot cross laminated timber manufacturing facility in Millersburg, Oregon. I had the privilege to act as the MC for the event and while I welcomed elected officials, industry partners, and company leadership, I reflected on my nearly 10 years of effort realized in expanding mass timber manufacturing in Oregon. When I started as an intern at Clackamas County in 2016, we built a plan to recruit high wage jobs in engineered wood products and rebuild the timber economy. With this investment from Swinerton last week officially being implemented, we are on track to meet that goal. Thank you to Governor Tina Kotek, Senator Jeff Merkley, Representative Shelly Boshart Davis, Mayor Scott Cowen, and the many federal, state, and local officials who attended the event and supported this tremendous effort. Together we are working to create jobs and bring sustainable development into the way we build buildings.

Last week, Timberlab and Swinerton celebrated the official groundbreaking of the new 190,000-square-foot cross-laminated timber (CLT) manufacturing facility. When completed in 2026, the facility will be one of the largest CLT production sites in the United States. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on February 27th in Millersburg, OR, was attended by a wide range of local mass timber leadership and statewide elected officials. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, representatives from Senator Merkley's office, state Representative Shelly Boshart Davis, Mayor Scott Cowan and other government and industry agencies spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony highlighting Oregon’s commitment to advancing mass timber supply, manufacturing and construction as a sustainable alternative to traditional construction materials, like concrete and structural steel. “Today’s groundbreaking marks an exciting step forward in the growth of Oregon’s mass timber industry – a revolutionary technology key to our shared goal of building a sustainable, low-carbon future,” shares Governor Tina Kotek. “Companies like Timberlab have capitalized on the opportunity to reduce their impact on the natural environment here in Oregon. The introduction of a new facility in Millersburg will expand the supply chain for mass timber, bolstering our regional economy and helping make sure that mass timber is accessible for more construction projects.” Designed by LEVER Architecture, the manufacturing facility will be built with glue-laminated timber (GLT) produced at Timberlab’s other Oregon facilities using locally harvested timber. A Wood Innovations Grant from the USDA Forest Service supports the design of this full-mass timber building. Timberlab has sourced top-tier equipment for advanced timber and wood processing. Kallesoe Machinery A/S is providing a complete CLT processing line, including an automated feeding system, high-speed cross-cut saws, and a top-of-the-line finger-jointing system. The facility and its cutting-edge equipment will revolutionize the timber industry by delivering a superior product. Christopher Evans, Timberlab president, shares, “This facility groundbreaking is happening at a pivotal moment. Over the last 18 months, Oregon mills have been closing and jobs have been lost.” The firm is committed to investing in rural economies, as proven by its investment in two GLT facilities and a sawmill and planing mill, all in rural Oregon. Evans further explained the growth of mass timber construction, “Right now, we’ve seen 11 years of growth in mass timber representing 11 million board feet of product across the nation. In 15 years, it's expected to be 3.5 billion board feet. This type of growth doesn’t happen on its own; it happens with vision and investment.” Read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/gEfDKPi4 #masstimber #masstimberconstruction #crosslaminatedtimber #clt #cltfacility #glulam #masstimberconference #masstimberbuilding #cltbuilding #oregon #timberproducts
