Thank you Tamara AL-Yassin! 🎉 ⭐ Join part two of our series: Operationalizing Justice, for FREE using the code HLTH2024 (link in the comments!) Our HLTH Inc. workshop was the first in our 4 part Equity in Practice series that empowers healthcare professionals to confront racial bias, embed equity into everyday protocols, and transform provider-patient dynamics. ➡️ Going beyond theory and buzzwords, this workshop equips participants to drive lasting change and create compassionate care environments — for providers and patients. ➡️ Operationalizing justice focuses on policies, protocols, charting, and beyond. 💬 Ideal for: Healthcare Administrators and Managers, Compliance Officers, Directors, Ops Teams, Clinicians, Policy Makers and Equity Officers, Medical Educators and Trainers, Health IT and Systems Specialists #healthequity #healthcareonlinkedin #HLTHUSA #racialbiasinmedicine
Yesterday, I went to Tesiah Coleman, MSN, AGPCNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CLC's interactive workshop at HLTH Inc. and all I have the say is that she needs to be on the main stage next year! She moved beyond #equity as a buzzword to equip #clinicians with the tools to recognize and address #racialbias in medical practice while acknowledging the systemic factors that impact their ability to do so. Through real-world scenarios and hands-on exercises, we explored the effects of racial bias on #patient outcomes and developed strategies to foster more inclusive and equitable #healthcare. There were numerous valuable insights, but a few that stood out to me were: 1️⃣A black pediatric patient is 1.8x more likely to be physically restrained in the ED. 2️⃣Black infants are 2.9x more likely to die than white infants. 3️⃣Black patients are 40% more likely to die of colon cancer than their white counterparts. 4️⃣Black patients have a 4x higher risk of end-stage renal disease. 5️⃣Every 7 minutes, a Black person in the United States dies prematurely. Over 200 Black lives are lost each day—deaths that could be prevented if health disparities between Black and white Americans were eliminated. Tesiah is the founder of Togather, the first collective care platform built by and for healthcare providers. She also contributes to The Nursing Beat because these stories must be told in order to drive the change we need. Bravo, Tesiah! I am proud to know you. #NursesonLinkedin

We get asked this A LOT! 🧐 A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the rate of burnout rose from 34.5% to a whopping 76.7% when BIPOC physicians were subjected to frequent racist comments (Link to article in the comments!) 😓 Burnout is a systemic issue, and therefore other issues within "the systems" are always at play, including racism. Healthcare is not exempt from this, and we cannot overlook racism when we talk about addressing care provider burnout. Join our Founder, Tesiah Coleman, MSN, AGPCNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CLC, and CXO Erica Livingston for their interactive workshop at this year's HLTH Inc. event: ✨Equity in Practice: Confronting Racial Bias in Medicine.✨ You can expect: ➡ Moving beyond equity as a buzzword ➡ Practical tools to help you recognize and address racial bias ➡ Explore effects of racial bias in healthcare via real-world scenarios and hands-on exercises ➡ Leave with actionable next steps you can apply immediately We hope to see you there! 🔗 Link in comments to learn more! #healthequity #healthcareonlinkedin #HLTHUSA #racialbiasinmedicine

This #WorldMentalHealthDay we're reflecting on the fact that 63% of health care providers are experiencing burn out (Source: American Medical Assoc.) At Togather, we recognize that mental health is not a personal or individual issue. It exists at the intersections of oppressive systems and institutions that were never designed with mental health & worker wellbeing in mind. So today, we encourage us all to lean into community, challenge our capitalist thinking, and take care of ourselves beyond the usual vision of "self care" out there (though if that floats your boat, then we hope you enjoy some of that today, too!) ❤ #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #mentalhealthmatters #healthcareburnout #HealthCareOnLinkedIn

📣 Career Story For me, #LinkedIn often offers a glimpse into journeys that demand a closer look. That's how I stumbled upon Tesiah Coleman, MSN, AGPCNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CLC story - a #nursepractitioner whose career path intrigued me. From her profile, I could see she was building something special in Togather. But I knew there was more to uncover. So I reached out, curious about the person behind the profile. 🌟 Don’t be afraid to change the how. 🌟 My purpose, or why, as a healthcare provider is to be a part of the work to end health inequities, raising the standard of care for all people. 🤱🏽 This was true when I was a lactation counselor helping parents feed their babies in the way they wanted. 🫄🏻 It was true when I was a doula helping people have empowering birth, postpartum, and abortion experiences. 👩🏾⚕️ So when I entered community health as a newly graduated nurse practitioner, ready to deliver quality anti-oppressive care, I was shocked to feel my purpose slipping further away from me every day. I felt overwhelmed by the amount of problems I saw in our system, and the limited resources I was given to solve them. 🥊 But I don't back down from a challenge, so I dug deeper, pushed harder, and convinced myself that a lifelong career in community health was the only way I could deliver on my purpose. But that was a lie. After just two years, I was completely burnt out. I found myself struggling to keep going. I realized that while my why—my purpose—remained unchanged, my how needed to evolve. I began to explore other ways to make an impact, searching for something that would not only benefit my community but also sustain my well-being. I did this first through health-tech leadership, and now through the creation of Togather. What I’ve seen a lot in healthcare post pandemic is people losing their why. Their purpose. What brought them to healthcare to begin with. It's easy to get lost in the day-to-day struggles and lose sight of what truly drives you. Getting fooled into thinking your why is a specific role or job description. As we grow and our circumstances change (parenthood, burnout, health, change in priorities), the ways we fulfill our purpose must adapt. This flexibility is a sign of resilience and growth, not failure. For me, that purpose led to creating Togather—a community dedicated to supporting, connecting, and educating healthcare providers working towards health justice. It’s a space where we can collectively care for each other and find joy in our work again. So, hold on to your why, but be open to changing your how. Embrace the journey of discovery and growth. And remember, you’re not alone. -- #burnout #healthequity #mentalhealth #healthtech #healthcareonlinkedin #nursesonlinkedin 🔔 Hi, I'm Tesiah! I've experienced firsthand the challenges of provider burnout and moral injury. So I set out to change things for myself and others. ✅ Togather is on a mission to support, connect, and educate healthcare providers working towards health justice. If you're a healthcare provider looking for any or all of the above through the values of #collectivecare and #joy--then book a meeting with me to chat more! My booking link is in the comments 👇🏾👇🏾
