Happy National Upcycling Day (yes, it's a thing - and the 22nd anniversary of the holiday at that!). Upcycling, rooted in historical necessity during economic crises and wars, was first defined in the 1990s by Reiner Pilz. The concept gained prominence with the 2002 book "Cradle to Cradle," advocating for sustainable production. Upcycling transforms used materials into valuable items, reducing waste and protecting the environment. In 2022, National Upcycling Day became a National holiday! Today is its 22nd anniversary. Celebrate with us: Enter our giveaway to UPgrade your pantry with prizes from some of our favorite upcycled food companies on Instagram, with fellow upcyclers including Matriark Foods Renewal Mill Octonuts Barnana, PBC Enter via https://lnkd.in/g8sPBc_H How else are you celebrating?

Today marks the last day of 4th grade for my kids! This spring, as one of their IB units, their classes delved into the topic of climate change, sparking some fascinating discussions at home. I had the opportunity to visit their class and share with them how our consumption choices impact the environment. Engaging with the kids was an absolute joy—they are so open-minded and curious, qualities that I strive to embody in my professional life as well. I both loved witnessing them connecting the dots and was surprised about how much of what I was sharing was news to them. "Are you telling me we are clearing the Amazon rainforest (which cleans the air) to raise cows just to kill them for food?" - Zoe (4th grader, who has since committed to meatless Mondays at home) A huge thank you to the following brands for providing samples and for letting me tell their inspiring sustainability stories: Trashy, Hey, Sunshine Kitchen, Barnana, PBC, 12 Tides. Let's continue to support these trailblazers in sustainability... ... and educate our youth on why our and their choices matter to work towards a better future together! 🌍💚 #Sustainability #ClimateChange #Education #Innovation #FutureLeaders #ConsciousConsumption #FoodWaste #StayCurious #ProfessionalGrowth

How cool is this? Last week, Going Green Media visited us at Evolution Fresh to see how we create Trashy chips behind the scenes. Every year, Evolution Fresh produces 17.4 million pounds of pulp. As a 99.8% waste-free facility, most of this produce goes to cattle feed - save for what we're able to recover at Trashy. The supply chain and product innovation is my favorite part of being in this business; sharing our story and how collaboration across the food industry can help to achieve mutual sustainability goals, advancing a circular economy, brings me much joy. Check out Going Green Media's post on our process behind the scenes here: https://lnkd.in/g4RBFaJq 100,000 views and counting! Michael Durbin Juliet Y. Michael Rosenthal and shout out to Onna Burleson who first introduced me to the Evolution Fresh team - thank you for being the intrapreneur that you are. #supplychain #foodindustry #cpgindustry #cpg #behindthescenes #foodmanufacturing

Celebrate #StopFoodWasteDay with us! Invest in the future of food today, with Trashy. Trashy's impact to date: • We've saved over 200,000 pounds of would-be wasted, nutritious foods ranging from the pulp of cold-pressed juice to the scraps from baby carrots, or the fiber-rich pulp from tofu manufacturing • That's the equivalent of over 24 million liters of water saved 🤯 Check out how it's done with a behind the scenes look at our supply chain and manufacturing process: https://lnkd.in/grQm94Ne #upcycle #upcycledfood #foodwaste We are 'testing the waters' to gauge investor interest in an offering under Regulation Crowdfunding. No money or other consideration is being solicited. If sent, it will not be accepted. No offer to buy securities will be accepted. It's #StopFoodWasteDay and Earth Week... what more can we say? Almost 50% of all fruits and vegetable produced is wasted every year globally which is equivalent to about 3.7 trillion apples. Wasted fruits and vegetables are actually the number one solid waste material sent to landfills 🤯 And yet, NINE in ten Americans don't get their daily servings of fruits, vegetables or fiber. Bridging this gap is our reason for being - and what motivates me personally as a founder. I've had the pleasure of visiting farms and manufacturing facilities across the country, and it's shocking how much latent value is left on the table across our food supply chain. Take a look behind the scenes in our manufacturing process, and how we turn the pulp, the peels, and other vegetable scraps from farms and manufacturers into craveable veggie chips that put organic vegetables at the front of the label: https://lnkd.in/g8fC3h_N Thank you to our crowd equity supporters who are helping us bring Trashy to life.
