About us

When Treehouse California Almonds was first started in the early 1980’s, the mission was clear: deliver premium quality almond products to the baking and confectionary industries. Using high-quality raw almonds sourced primarily from our own orchards, innovative processing techniques, and a higher self-standard, we made confectionary grade almonds available to bakeries, confectionaries, and food entrepreneurs all over the world. Over 30 years later, our mission to deliver the very best almond products –while maintaining respect for bees, farmers and the environment—is shown through commitment to Good Agricultural Practices and Good Management Practices. As we grow, our dedication to delivering exceptional quality for our customers is the natural result of our “farm to table” approach and our goal to preserve our farming heritage and deliver Pure Almond Goodness for generations to come.

  • At the recent Almond Board Conference, the Almond Board of California unveiled a groundbreaking study on the carbon footprint of almonds. The findings shed light on how sustainable practices in almond farming are contributing to a greener future: - Efficient water use: Innovations in irrigation are maximizing productivity while reducing environmental impact. - Carbon sequestration: Almond orchards capture and store significant amounts of carbon in the soil and trees. - Byproduct utilization: Almond shells and hulls are repurposed for animal feed, renewable energy, and other applications, reducing waste. This research highlights the almond industry’s commitment to minimizing environmental impact while providing high-quality, sustainable products. Treehouse California Almonds is aligned with sustainability goals, what about your company? • Did you know that you can offset carbon emissions using carbon credits? But how are they calculated? Carbon credits represent 1 tonne of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e) that has been removed or avoided from the atmosphere. Here is the basic process for calculating them: - Identify emissions First, calculate the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by an activity or process. - Define the offset project This could include practices such as: • Planting trees to capture CO₂. • Producing clean energy (solar, wind). • Reducing emissions in industrial or agricultural processes. - Measuring the impact Using international standards, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the benefits of the project are measured. - Certification Certification organizations verify and guarantee that the project has reduced or captured the promised amount of CO₂. Result? Each tonne of carbon mitigated generates 1 carbon credit, which can be purchased to offset emissions or support sustainable projects. What about almonds? Almonds are a shining example of low-carbon agriculture. According to a University of Oxford study, almonds produce significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to other foods: • Almonds: 1.2 kg CO₂e per kg of food. • Beef: 84 kg CO₂e. • Coffee: 15.2 kg CO₂e. • Dairy: 2.4 kg CO₂e. Almond trees capture carbon in the soil and trees, contributing to climate mitigation. This makes almonds not just a delicious and nutritious choice but also a sustainable one. Sustainability starts with small actions that have a big impact. How is your company reducing its carbon emissions? Let's build a greener future together! • A carbon footprint measures the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by a person, product, or process. The average carbon footprint for an individual in the U.S. is 16 tons per year, one of the highest rates globally, while the global average is closer to 4 tons per year, and to limit global warming to 2°C above pre-industrial levels, the global average annual carbon footprint needs to fall below 2 tons per person by 2050. For companies, reducing emissions involves implementing sustainable practices, tracking progress, and exploring carbon offset programs through credits. But what does this have to do with almonds? In the next few posts, we’ll explore how almond production is contributing to a more sustainable future! Spoiler alert: they help capture carbon in the soil and reduce environmental impact! Treehouse California Almonds is proud to align itself with sustainable practices to reduce emissions. What about you? How can your business contribute to a greener future? Use tools like The Nature Conservancy https://lnkd.in/ecSVddy to assess your impact and explore opportunities to offset emissions. Sustainability starts with small actions that have a big impact. • The Almond Board of California has compiled over two decades of publications on almonds. There are over 200 peer-reviewed publications on their nutritional profile and health benefits. The highlight of this study is the finding that almonds are essential for a healthy lifestyle. Research from leading scientists and universities around the world has found that almonds can help support heart health, gut health, weight management, skin health, exercise recovery and more. Here are some of the amazing findings: Nutrient-dense: Just one ounce of almonds provides 6g of plant-based protein, 4g of fiber and is an excellent source of vitamin E, magnesium and healthy fats. Heart health: Almonds may help lower LDL cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health. Weight management: Despite their calorie density, almonds promote satiety, helping to control calorie intake. Energy and Vitality: Almonds are packed with nutrients that support energy metabolism and overall well-being. Whether you’re looking for a nutritious snack or a versatile ingredient, almonds offer benefits for your heart, weight, and long-term health. • The opening of the new biochar plant in Delano represents a significant step forward for Treehouse California Almonds in 2025. This $9 million venture, in partnership with Sitos Group, will enable the transformation of almond shells into biochar, a carbon-rich material with multiple environmental and agricultural benefits. Expected benefits: - Enhanced sustainability: By converting agricultural waste into biochar, Treehouse furthers its commitment to regenerative agricultural practices and reducing its carbon footprint. - Improved soil health: Biochar helps retain moisture and nutrients in the soil, promoting better agricultural yields and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. - Clean energy generation: The plant will utilize Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) generators to convert heat from the pyrolysis process into clean electricity, supporting the local power grid. - Education and leadership: The facility will serve as an educational center for nature-based carbon dioxide removal, highlighting the role of biochar in mitigating climate change. With the plant expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025, Treehouse is positioned to lead sustainability initiatives in the almond industry, promoting a circular economy and greener farming practices. #Biochar #RegenerativeAgriculture #TreehouseCaliforniaAlmonds #Sustainability #Carbon #AgriculturalInnovation #TheAlmondProject #SitosGroup #TreehouseAlmonds

  • Great news for almond lovers! The FDA has finalized the new definition of “healthy” nutritional content claims, and almonds are now officially recognized as part of a balanced, healthy diet.   Why is this important? The “healthy” claim provides consumers with a quick, reliable way to identify nutritious options on food labels. This is particularly valuable for those less familiar with detailed nutrition information. Moreover, it motivates manufacturers to reformulate products, creating a healthier food supply for all.   To qualify for the “healthy” claim, a food must: ☑️ Contain servings from recommended food groups (e.g., fruits, vegetables, nonfat dairy, etc.) ☑️ Meet limits for saturated fat, sodium, and added sugars.   Foods newly recognized as healthy include almonds, seeds, salmon, certain oils, and water—nutrient-dense staples of healthy eating patterns outlined in the Dietary Guidelines.   Manufacturers that choose to use the “healthy” claim on their product labels have three years to comply with the new criteria but can start updating their labels immediately.   At Treehouse California Almonds, this milestone reinforces what we’ve always believed: almonds aren’t just delicious, they’re a foundation of healthy lifestyles.   Learn more in the FDA’s constituent update: https://lnkd.in/dsyyW5ai   #HealthyEating #Almonds #TreehouseCaliforniaAlmonds #Sustainability #FDA #Nutrition
