A murky day here in Eindhoven discussing Euro NCAP Safer Trucks. What is clear is DAF know’s about great vision and the part it plays in safe driving. Their camera monitoring systems are amongst the best and will become standard fit. And their Direct Vision is already standard and amongst the best. We like that a lot! We were discussing the new ratings that are launched on the 20th November. We’ve tested trucks from DAF, IVECO, Mercedes, Renault, Scania and Volvo. Have any got 5 stars? Who’s best for Safety? Vandaag was de 12e Allianz Motor Day bij AZT Automotive GmbH. Voor mij een uniek evenement waar hobby/bijbaan (Nouwens Transport Breda BV) en beroep samen kwamen. Allianz roept op om meer werk te maken van veiligheid voor zwakkere verkeersdeelnemers, omdat met name in de interactie met bestel- en vrachtverkeer de meeste ernstige #ongevallen plaats vinden. #ADAS spelen hierin een centrale rol. It’s always good to talk to hauliers that prioritise safety. So Euro NCAP is proud to be here in Munich at the AZT “Auto-tag” discussing how we make our European Cities safer. I had a great discussion with Kathrin Hegger MD of Michel Logistics, a Wurzburg based international haulier who considers safety their number one priority. She thinks the safest truck is also the most profitable one. We agree. Driver training plays a part as does specifying trucks with the best safety systems. How do chose? How do you independently verify manufacturer claims that their trucks are the safest choice. Well Euro NCAP will tell you on the 20th November.

Research article on the potential of HGV countermeasures to reduce the number of fatalities in crashes with VRUs Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) are involved in a large share of all serious and fatal collisions. Among these, about 30% are collisions involving vulnerable road users (VRUs). The aim of the study was to evaluate the potential of HGV countermeasures to prevent fatalities with VRUs in Sweden. Both the General Safety Regulation (GSR) and coming Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks test programme were taken into account. The #SwedishTransportAdministration (Trafikverket) carry out in-depth studies of all fatal road crashes. In this study, all in-depth studies for the period 2015–2020 were analysed retrospectively by a consensus group of analysts, to assess the effectiveness of 22 active and passive safety systems.
