Another Behind the Scenes Tech Talk event is in the books! This month, Mike Bidgoli sat down with Paresh Rajwat, a 10-year veteran of Meta, where he held key leadership roles, including VP of Product for VR/MR and VP of Product for Facebook Video and Audio efforts. 🔑 Key insights from the conversation with Tubi’s Chief Product & Technology Officer, Mike Bidgoli: ✅ "Calm Urgency" as a cultural value: The larger your role, the more pressure and stress the organization will often feel from business demands. You want to act as a buffer for your team, creating a culture where people move fast without added worry. "You want a culture where people want to win, but they want to win together," says Paresh. A key to achieving this is fostering an environment of “calm urgency.” He warns, “You don’t want to be part of a high-energy culture that places blame.” ✅ Creating room for “Bold Ideas”: To sustain growth, it's crucial to create space for bold ideas. This can be challenging, as you must balance immediate growth while also making bold moves. A structured way to achieve this is through building a product portfolio during planning, ensuring that a percentage of the investment goes toward big, bold ideas. “These would be crazy ideas that’ll put you in a completely different league if they work out,” says Paresh. He also noted that balancing portfolios has been a key to his success at Meta. ✅ Bet on scrappy people: The people you surround yourself with are critical when tackling tough projects. Scrappy individuals can “own the problem” and bring high energy to solving it. They figure things out along the way. Your job is to create a culture that allows these individuals to thrive. Paresh shared that he benefited greatly from this approach, especially when building the Video and Audio organization for Facebook. ✅ Build your network early: The best time to start building your network is while you're still in school. If you're out of school, the next best time is now. “If I could go back, I’d meet every student in grad school and make friends with them,” says Paresh. He credits much of his success to having a strong network, sharing, “People have always opened doors for me.” He also highlights the importance of having a sponsor: “A sponsor is the one who will lift you up in your career.” If you haven't found one yet, Paresh advises, “Keep refining your goals until you do.” ----------------------------------------- 💻 Interested in a role where your tech expertise meets entertainment innovation?
