Health Education & Promotion Specialist, Ashley Cutright, was presented an award for Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (OAHPERD)'s Community Health Teacher of the Year at their conference last week. This award is to encourage and recognize outstanding teaching and professional involvement by community educators/professionals in the area of Health Education. We're so proud of the work our school health program and staff are doing in this space. Congrats, Ashley, it's well-deserved!

On this #WorldHealthDay, employers can work toward fostering a healthier, more supportive work environment. Poor mental health can lead to decreased performance, absence from work, and increased staff turnover. Employers should apply reasonable accommodations to support workers with mental health conditions in the workplace while employees can take steps to support their own well-being. At THD, we offer ample paid time off, excellent health benefits, 30 minutes of wellness on work days and two employee assistance programs. What are you already doing as an employer to support your employees' mental health?

Several of our WIC clinics are recipients of the 2024 Gold WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence out of a total of 82 agencies across the nation granted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). The award program was established to recognize local WIC agencies which have provided exemplary breastfeeding promotion and support activities. The intent is to serve as a model and motivate other local agencies to strengthen their breastfeeding promotion and support activities and ultimately increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates among WIC participants. https://lnkd.in/ecJXKB_w

Our clinics will begin offering flu shots and the updated COVID-19 vaccine on October 1. Both vaccines are recommended for everyone six months of age and older. According to the CDC, it is safe and effective to receive multiple immunizations, such as the flu and COVID-19 vaccines, during the same appointment. These vaccines can keep you from getting the illness, make the illness less severe if you do get it and keep you from spreading the virus to family and other people,” said THD nurse and Associate Director of Preventive Health Services JP Williams. “Now is the best time to get vaccinated since we typically begin to see an increase in respiratory illnesses in the fall.” Most people can receive the updated COVID-19 vaccine or a seasonal flu shot with no out-of-pocket expense. Check with your healthcare provider if you have questions. https://lnkd.in/ggQsdMbU
