A new study published in The Lancet highlights the effectiveness of bariatric surgery in improving spontaneous ovulation in women with PCOS and obesity. The BAMBINI trial shows that bariatric surgery results in 2.5 times more ovulatory events compared to medical therapy and lifestyle changes. Does Food Order Really Matter? As an Italian food enthusiast and dietitian, I was determined to delve into the science and put it to the test myself. I adore pizza, but often felt tired, sluggish, and hungry shortly after eating it. The concept of moderation can be abstract—how do we apply research in practical ways? So, I experimented. Starting with a crisp salad before enjoying a slice of pizza, significantly changed my blood sugar response, as monitored with my CGM. I also discovered that adding more protein with meals helped keep me fuller longer. Delving deeper into the concept of food order—prioritizing fiber-rich foods first, followed by protein and fat, and saving starches and sugars for last—provides a way to nourish the body with what it needs while enjoying foods. It is not a magic wand for your meal, but it does make a difference. This approach, championed by biochemist Jessie Inchauspe in the "Glucose Revolution" book, underscores the profound impact of balanced eating on blood sugar control and overall energy levels. Inchauspe's practical insights extend beyond theory—using muscles after consuming sweets or starches can help manage glucose levels and prevent energy slumps.
