Unlimited Possibilities for People Living with Disabilities

About us

United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Heartland was founded in 1953 by a group of concerned parents and volunteers, who wanted to provide a higher quality of life for family members and friends living with disabilities. The primary focus during the early stages of the organization was to provide support to families and provide leisure services to children and adults with cerebral palsy. Over the years, due to changing needs within the community, we expanded our focus to serve people with a spectrum of disabilities including autism, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injury and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. We have grown to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities in a changing world. In 2008, UCP acquired another nonprofit agency, expanding our service geography to include Columbia and Jefferson City, Missouri. Today, our services include: Adult Day Services, Camps for school aged children, Early Childhood Programs, Employment Resources, Family Navigator, Residential Services, Respite We are proud of our reputation to serve the most vulnerable. People living with disabilities are living longer today than in 1953. We are committed to provide the supports necessary for a successful, happy meaningful life to our clients, their families and their surrounding community. As our founders had hoped, UCP continues to change the way the world sees people with disabilities. Our communities become rich with diversity as we incorporate our clients into every facet of society.

Our clients had such an amazing time visiting Kemp Lake last week! #Kemp Lake is owned and operated by the Fred M. Kemp Foundation and provides an inclusive experience to individuals with disabilities that allows them to hunt and fish on a private and fully accessible property. Fred and his team of volunteers took clients fishing on their breakaway docks and helped them cast in the perfect spots. Natalie even caught a fish! We are so thankful for opportunities and foundations like the Fred M. Kemp Foundation that make these activities available to people of all abilities. Thank you for sharing the joy of nature with our clients!

The state legislature made cuts to the Fiscal Year 2025 budget that are already hurting Missourians with disabilities and negatively affecting community providers. Missourians with disabilities and their families should not be stuck waiting for services. Use our VoterVoice tool to email your elected Representative or Senator today. Remind them that it's not too late to request Governor Parson call a special session during the upcoming Annual Veto Session (September 11, 2024) to restore the cuts that were enacted. https://lnkd.in/gNHv8sE8

Meet Arik, a young man who has been attending UCP Heartland Youth Camps for five years strong! Transitioning into adulthood comes with many obstacles. Arik entered the eight-week camp with a personal care goal that would mark a significant step in his journey toward greater independence. After eight long weeks of determination and hard work, Arik had completed this personal care goal with the help of three support staff. We would like to recognize Charles, Jesse, and Adrian, who through consistency and a person-centered approach made a difference in the life of Arik and his family. Thank you for all you do to make the mission of UCP Heartland a reality!

Angel has always had a dream of seeing a TV studio. During our Wing Ding promotions, we stopped by Fox 2 with Tim Ezell and Felix's Pizza Pub. It was a perfect opportunity to check something off of Angel’s bucket list! She got to meet the crew, see behind the scenes, and learn how the magic is made. Thank you to Fox 2 for making Angel’s dreams a reality!

Our RBTs completed a Professional Development Day last week where they spent time furthering their knowledge on behavioral therapy topics, reconnecting with their teams through interactive community-building games, and sharing insights to enhance their skills through discussions. RBT Ashley said, "Professional Development Days are essential for providing a much-needed reset and reinforcing my commitment to the work I do. They remind me of the purpose and impact of my role, offering fresh perspectives and renewed motivation to continue making a difference." Thank you for all that you do!
