A heartwarming moment took place in St. Augustine when Hurricane Milton's arrival coincided with the birth of Nova Reign at UF Health Flagler Hospital. Nova arrived at 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, just a few hours before Hurricane Milton made its way to Florida, bringing unexpected excitement to parents Katelyn and Christopher. “Delivering our baby and then riding out a hurricane was not part of the plan and certainly unexpected,” said Katelyn. “We watched the palm trees blowing from our hospital room window and felt safe the entire time. Nova let us sleep throughout most of the storm, thankfully.”

Yesterday, UF Health St. Johns Care Connect, Publix Super Markets, and Epic-Cure Inc.. teamed up to provide 40,000 pounds of free food and household essentials to 500 families. The essentials included fresh dairy, meats, grains, fruits, vegetables, snacks, baby formula, menstrual products, and dental hygiene products. Many items were rescued from places like grocery stores and restaurants that would have otherwise been discarded. We want to express our immense gratitude to Epic-Cure, Publix, and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office for their invaluable assistance in making this event a resounding success for our community.

Progress continues on the development of UF Health Durbin Park Hospital in northern St. Johns County. Situated next to the future medical office building, construction teams are hard at work on the steel framework of the hospital. They have already completed the skeleton frame of the first two floors and continue to make progress on the third. Concrete has been poured for the ground and first floors, which will one day support our team members as they care for patients. The hospital is currently expected to open in mid-2026.
