The UARC for the Human Domain -- providing sociotechnical solutions for hard security and intelligence challenges.
About us
The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), based at the University of Maryland College Park, was established in 2018 as a long-term strategic asset for research and development in artificial intelligence, information engineering, and human systems. One of only 14 designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation, ARLIS conducts both classified and unclassified applied research and works to serve the US Government and its defense security and intelligence communities as an independent and objective trusted agent. Critical to generating robust analysis and trusted tools in the human domain is the ability to pull together true multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams, grounded both in the technical state of the art and a direct understanding of the complex challenges faced by the defense security and intelligence enterprise. Our renowned research team includes engineers, psychologists, computer scientists, anthropologists, cognitive scientists, political scientists, and linguists, working together with former defense operators and policy makers.

Craig Lawrence, PhD., Dr. Brian Pierce and Erin Fitzgerald-Rey represented ARLIS at DARPA’s first UARC Fair on Oct. 2 in Arlington, Va. Thank you Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the opportunity to showcase ARLIS's commitment to fostering strategic collaborations in research and technology.
Our Contracts Management Office recently hosted its first University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) Fair to give agency program managers more insights into the core competencies and capabilities each UARC offers, and spark conversations about how UARCs could best support future programs. 🦾Goal: Strengthen collaboration with entities that serve as trusted agents for government support. 📺Up next: Stay tuned for Spring 2025 programming, including a similar event with Federally Funded Research and Development Centers. In the meantime, we have a wealth of info about DARPA’s acquisition innovation on our CMO website (https://lnkd.in/eVVajuwt) and you can hear more about how our contracting approach is key to creating breakthrough technologies for national security on Episode 82 of the Voices from DARPA podcast https://lnkd.in/g554cBp. #govcon #contractsmanagement

September is National Insider Threat Awareness Month, or #NITAM, and the theme is “Deter. Detect. Mitigate.” A bystander witnesses concerning behaviors but may not take action to help mitigate the problem. An engaged bystander is aware of concerning behaviors and acts on those concerns.
