With so many people and communities in the southeast impacted by the destruction of Hurricane Helene, our teams are taking action. Over the past week, we have mobilized to raise donations for World Central Kitchen, which offers hot meals to those impacted; given direct monetary donations to local partners helping the hardest-hit communities on-the-ground; and coordinated the delivery of critical supplies via our Distribution Centers and Sustainable Operations team. Throughout UNFI’s history, we’ve efficiently connected customers to better food from growers and manufacturers across the country. This week, we had conversations with Governors Katie Hobbs (AZ), Kathy Hochul (NY), and Tina Kotek (OR) and Secretary of Policy and Planning Akbar Hossain (PA) on the importance of public-private partnerships to drive light- and heavy-duty electric vehicle adoption across our industry.    To help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the planet we all share, UNFI continues to invest in decarbonization and pilot cutting-edge carbon-reduction technologies. 21,000 hours volunteered toward creating a better future!      UNFI associates recently exceeded our annual goal by completing 21,133 volunteer hours in Fiscal Year 2024, surpassing our target of 20,000 hours. At UNFI, one way we create a better future is by empowering associates to give back to their communities. From partnering with Feeding America in Riverside, CA, organizing food packing shifts for Feed My Starving Children, and participating in Habitat for Humanity clean-ups in Iowa City, our associates are making a tangible impact. At UNFI, our drivers play an essential role in delivering better food to our customers and communities every day. During our 2024 fiscal year, our drivers traveled more than 166 million miles and made over 1.8 million deliveries.   As part of our Driver Ambassador Program, over 1,100 drivers earned Elite Driver status by consistently delivering superior customer service and adopting safe driving practices. This year, UNFI is honoring #HungerActionMonth by shining a light on a handful of our 2024 UNFI Foundation grantees who share our commitment to improving access to quality food. Loaves & Fishes MN is a community organization that provides healthy foods to those in need with the mission of ending hunger and transforming lives. With support from the UNFI Foundation, the organization can now add one additional food rescue driver per year, which means that nearly 1.25 million more meals can be delivered to people in need.
