Historic 1914 landmark and Kansas City's most prominent destination for civic, entertainment and cultural activities

About us

Architectural Masterpiece. Living History. A place for great adventure. Where Kansas City Connects. All of these phrases and more are regularly used to describe Union Station. Visitors of all ages, from all places and for all reasons tie Union Station to special and magical moments from their lives. Union Station draws tourists from all over the world who marvel at her Grand Hall's 95-foot ceiling, three 3,500-pound chandeliers and the six-foot wide clock hanging in her central arch. She wakes up early and stays up late to host business meetings, civic events, weddings and celebrations of all sorts. And that’s just the beginning. Just as you could 100 years ago, you can still catch the train at Union Station's AMTRAK stop and head out across the country. You'll also find traveling exhibits produced by the Smithsonian, National Geographic and other international organizations, a Planetarium, an interactive science center Science City, and a vibrant Theater District featuring the region's biggest movie screen, live theatre, and so much more. The Station is also home to two of KC's finest restaurants, Harvey's and Pierponts, as well as Parisi Artisan Coffee, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, the Kansas City Store, and Science City Store. Make a day of it at the Station! There's so much for the entire family to SEE and DO!

  • Enjoying a Jolly Holiday at Union Station earlier this morning, Humboldt penguins Bubbles and Marlin made a special visit to help welcome the beloved 13-time Academy Award-winning 1964 film Mary Poppins to our GIANT 5-story Extreme Screen for a special week-long presentation. Bubbles and Marlin visited Union Station from Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, along with Kelsey & Alex from the Zoo's animal care staff. Humboldt penguins are the Zoo’s “warm weather” penguins and one of five species of penguin at the Zoo.

  • The recent passing of Pat Ottensmeyer has hit us hard. Pat was a tremendous friend of Union Station, a railway industry icon, and a remarkable supporter of so much and so many in Kansas City and beyond. Our hope is in the legacy Pat leaves. A legacy of loyalty and love for his family, friends, and community. Among a lifetime of accomplishments, Pat served as the final President and CEO of Kansas City Southern from 2015 until April 14, 2023, upon the completion of the combination of Canadian Pacific and KCS that created CPKC. Pat was a familiar face at Union Station as a supporter, a business leader, and a devoted family man. Whether he was ringing a holiday bell for The Salvation Army under our historic clock, chairing an industry meeting, or simply enjoying the Station as a father and grandfather, his passions were clear. We will miss Pat and offer our deepest condolences to his fiancée Deanne, his entire family, many friends, and colleagues. Pat will forever be an essential part of the Union Station and Kansas City stories.
