Today, Tuesday 25th March, 2025,the United Nations Association of Uganda (UNA-Uganda) launched its KIU Chapter at the university's Main Campus, marking a significant milestone in promoting the UN's mission among young Ugandans. The launch was accompanied by a dissemination workshop on the UN Global Agenda 2030, themed 'From Goals to Action: Youth for a Sustainable World.' This initiative is part of UNA-Uganda's efforts to engage young minds in the UN system, with university chapters established across various institutions in Uganda. According to Margaret Athieno Mwebesa, Commissioner of the Climate Change Department at the Ministry of Water and Environment, these chapters serve as local hubs for young leaders to converge, learn, discuss, and take action on global issues, aligning with the UN's core objectives and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Stephen Twesigye, President of the UNA-Uganda KIU Chapter, emphasized that the newly launched chapter aims to promote the UN's ideals within the KIU community, fostering a culture of sustainability and global citizenship.

Aziz Agaba from Uganda National Consumers Organization empowered students with insights on the Uganda Tobacco Control Act 2015, shedding light on how the industry targets young people. Raising taxes on tobacco products isn’t just policy, it’s a way to reduce demand and limit access. Asaba Linda sparked an eye-opening discussion on the hidden dangers of tobacco and its products. A dynamic panel discussion featuring young women highlighted the importance of empowering women and girls, an inspiring demonstration of how partnerships between student-led initiatives and organizations drive meaningful change.
