🚀 Join the GEF Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) Team! The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is seeking an Evaluation Analyst to join its Independent Evaluation Office. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to advancing the GEF’s mission of protecting the global environment through evidence-based evaluations and strategic insights. About the Role: The IEO plays a critical role in ensuring independent evaluation within the GEF. We conduct evaluations on strategic themes and country clusters, providing vital oversight and evidence to guide the GEF Council’s decisions. This position will support the IEO in deepening evidence on GEF’s results and performance through ex-post evaluations and real-time feedback on shifts in GEF’s strategy and programming. Additionally, the role focuses on scaling up learning and knowledge sharing, enhancing evaluation methodology, and ensuring cost-effectiveness in our evaluations. What We’re Looking For: We’re looking for candidates with strong analytical skills, experience in evaluation, and a passion for environmental sustainability. 🌍🤝 Exciting news from the recent M&E workshop in Rome! Four Evaluation Directors— Geeta Batra (GEF IEO), Clemencia Cosentino (FAO IOE), Anne-Claire Luzot (WFP), and Allison Grove Smith Smith (CGIAR)— have decided to merge the Earth - Eval and EvalForward platforms into a single, unified community, which will be managed by CGIAR going forward.   This new platform will focus on strengthening the global community of practice, especially across Africa, where most of the top 20 active members are based. While GEF IEO will no longer manage the platform, we will continue to provide content and financial support. A new steering committee of evaluators will be formed to guide content development and ensure meaningful engagement.   The name is still to be decided, but there’s strong support for keeping Earth Eval. 🇮🇹 Highlights from the GEF IEO Workshop on Strengthening Evaluation Practices Yesterday, the GEF Independent Evaluation Office led an interactive workshop as part of the ongoing GEF Partnership Monitoring and Evaluation Conference in Rome in collaboration with the FAO. Bringing together representatives from GEF agencies, the session focused on refining approaches to Terminal Evaluations and aligning them with the latest GEF and OECD DAC guidelines. Key topics included: 📕 New guidance for evaluating child projects and integrated programs. ↗ Emphasis on coherence, additionality, and transformational change. 🤝 Practical group exercises to address common challenges and share best practices. This workshop was a critical step in enhancing collaboration, building evaluative capacity, and ensuring the GEF agencies have a shared understanding of the updated evaluation criteria and processes. We look forward to building on these insights and advancing a more unified approach to measuring impact across the GEF partnership. The Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD at the 15th European Evaluation Biennial Conference “Evaluators must have the courage to speak truth to power in a manner that is full of empathy. Sometimes, we talk like professors, almost with a certain arrogance, as if we knew it all. The truth is that we have one, albeit important perspectives, and need to recognize that evaluator humility knowing the limits will make us more effective”, underscored Dr Dr Indran A. Naidoo, Director of the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD (IOE) during a panel discussion at the 15th European Evaluation Biennial Conference, in Rimini, on 25 September 2024. Over 950 participants joined the event, which was a big success with 430 presenters and 240 sessions. These included 2 keynotes, 45 paper sessions, 70 panels, 14 "Meet the Evaluator" sessions, 46 workshops, 29 fishbowls, 19 sparkling discussions, 3 poster sessions and 3 book sessions. A strong delegation of IOE staff attended the conference, acting as panellists and co-presenters in nine different sessions during the three main days of the event. In addition to Dr Naidoo, the line-up of IOE presenters and discussants featured Dr Johanna Pennarz, Lead Evaluation Officer; Dr S. Nanthikesan, former Lead Evaluation Officer; Dr Monica Lomena-Gelis, Senior Evaluation Officer; Dr Alexander Voccia, PhD, Senior Evaluation Communication & Knowledge Management Specialist; Jeanette Cooke, Evaluation Officer; and Mikal Khan, Evaluation Officer. In the margins of the conference, Dr Naidoo engaged in strategic discussions with key partners and senior evaluation experts, including Véronique Salze-Lozac'h, Chief Evaluator, Evaluation Department (IEvD), EBRD; and Luciano Lavizzari, former IOE Director.
