  • 🙌  The Ruth Sharp Altshuler Tocqueville Society recently launched our first Tocqueville luncheon of the fall season and celebrated record attendance with over 200 Tocqueville members and friends at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Special thanks to 2023-2024 Campaign Chair and President and CEO of Comerica Bank Curt Farmer, who announcement that an incredible $56 million was raised under his leadership to improve access to education, income and health in North Texas—surpassing our initial goal. That’s more local youth reading proficiently by third grade, more adults equipped with the skills needed to become financially stable in life, and more families living healthier lives through increased food security and expanded access to health care coverage. We're grateful to Comerica Bank for serving as our Tocqueville luncheon presenting sponsor. We extend our sincere gratitude to Ruth Sharp Altshuler Tocqueville Co-Chair Erin Nealy Cox for sharing an update on the Tocqueville Beat Bama Challenge. With just 100 Tocqueville members to go, Dallas is narrowing in on the Bama lead! We also thank our President and CEO Jennifer Sampson for providing an exciting update on plans for our Centennial year. And what fun it was to hear from Rena Pederson, author of "The King of Diamonds," who shared insights from UWMD Tocqueville founder Ruth Sharp Altshuler. We were excited to learn that Rena interviewed Ruth for her new book! And a special thanks to United Way Foundation Board Member Mary Templeton for introducing Rena and sharing her own thoughtful insights on "The King of Diamonds." •  🎓 Did you know that children who save as little as $500 are three times more likely to attend college and four more times more likely to graduate? Well, since launching our game-changing Dollars for College program eight years ago, 1,044 North Texas students have opened higher education savings accounts with deposits totaling $403,000—putting more kids on the path to earning a four-year degree. We were pleased to highlight this success at our first-ever Dollars for College summit at Dallas College, where higher education advocates from across North Texas convened to discuss opportunities to partner to support kids’ dreams of going to college. “Programs like Dollars for College enable children to have a vision and plan for their future,” said Greg Mangum, our vice president of economic mobility at our Dollars for College summit. “They can also be a policy vehicle for reducing wealth gaps and leveling the playing field—ensuring more equitable outcomes in education and income.”   A huge thanks to our partners and our keynote speaker, University of Michigan School of Social Work professor Dr. William Elliott III, for making this inaugural summit a resounding success. • This month, participants from all our March Tocqueville Fellows cohorts gathered at the home of Class of 2021 fellow Grace Cook to celebrate the completion of the inaugural class—and welcome a new one. The gathering featured a special message from the initiative’s founders, Kevin and Carol March, who highlighted the origins of this groundbreaking fellowship and our goals as we kick off our Centennial year.    UWMD March Fellows are leading young professionals in our region, and we take pride in harnessing their passions to create lasting change to improve access to education, income and health in North Texas. A special thank you to Grace for hosting such a special occasion. And a very big shoutout to Kevin and Carol March for making this initiative possible.    To learn more about our March #Tocqueville Fellows Initiative and how your organization can sponsor a fellow for an upcoming class, visit https://lnkd.in/gq5N9_2U

  • Words are inadequate to express our deep appreciation to Celanese Chairman CEO and President, and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas board member, Lori J. Ryerkerk, her exceptional and competitive Celanese team and an army of generous Celanese partners for masterfully organizing and executing a record-breaking Golf Invitational today—raising an historic $1.6M for United Way Dallas' community impact work.
