They put me to work this morning during my visit to the Tri-County Labor Food Pantry in Battle Creek! This intrepid group of union volunteers serve 80+ families each week and were recently recognized by South Michigan Food Bank for distributing over 100,000 pounds of food to families in the area. While it started out as a service to union members, the food pantry is now open to anyone and they distribute every Friday morning. Today, I joined this crew in unloading the truck of supplies for tomorrow’s distribution! 💪💪 Another great partner of United Way of South Central Michigan.

As so many of you are keenly aware, we are facing an opioid epidemic. For women who struggle with this and other substance abuse disorders, the barriers to health and stability can seem insurmountable. I was so impressed today by the staff and the calm, homey environment at Gracious Homes in Battle Creek. Grace Cowens and her team offer holistic case management services and a safe home for up to 7 women who have left treatment facilities but need a safe, sober place to stay while they get back on their feet.
