Stay safe, University City! Governor Roy Cooper has declared a State of Emergency through Saturday due to Hurricane Helene. We urge all businesses and residents to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions, because these high winds, heavy rains and flooding create a great risk for uprooted trees and downed power lines. 🌧️ Stay home, if possible: Avoid going out unless absolutely necessary. 🌧️Don't drive through standing water: If you do need to go out, be careful. Flood waters can be deceptively deep and dangerous. 🌧️Stay informed: Keep up to date with weather alerts and follow the advice of local authorities. 🌧️Communicate issues: To help keep our community safe, please report power outages, road blocks, flooded streets and overflowing storm drains. 🌧️Use emergency services if needed: For serious emergencies, including immediate threats to life or property, call 911. Call 311 with other non-urgent issues.

Drew Gaertner just wrapped up the 2024 NC BikeWalk Transportation Summit. It was a great day of learning about the efforts organizations across North Carolina are putting in to building better pedestrian infrastructure. There was even an opportunity to test out the latest in E-Bike technology! Speakers touched on many subjects, including how to put more focus on the 31% of the population that does not have access or the ability to drive a car. These insights will help drive our strategies for mobility and transportation as we plan for the future of University City.

Another successful Neighborhood Development meeting in the books! Big thanks to University City Partners for hosting community leaders of the Sugar Creek Corridor at Hilton University for our monthly collaborative sync meeting. Attendees included Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, HealCharlotte, Hidden Valley Community Association, Blue Cross NC, Hola Neighbor, Northside Baptist Church/Life Project, Operation Clean Health, and others.

The UCP SBI Initiative provided funding to local powerlifting gym, TFC Barbell, through our program. Roll up your sleeves and join us, as we cleanup roadside trash to keep our city clean during the Fall Litter Sweep! Every spring and fall, North Carolina communities come together for the NCDOT Litter Sweep, making a visible difference in our environment. Starting this Saturday (9.14), volunteers will once again hit the roads to help protect our landscapes and keep North Carolina safe and clean. North Carolina Department of Transportation is looking for individuals to help keep our roadsides beautiful. Their county maintenance offices will provide gloves, safety vests and bags.
