“I know what a refugee story can look like... But I also know the unique struggles,” shared Mursal Hedayat MBE, reflecting on her own journey from Kabul to building an impactful social enterprise. It's this deep understanding of the refugee experience that led Mursal to found the Unreasonable company, Chatterbox. Refugees bring with them a rich tapestry of languages, cultures, and lived experiences. Yet, too often, their potential remains hidden. Chatterbox is shifting this narrative, highlighting their potential and contributions by empowering them to become teachers on their language-learning platform. Here, refugees share their language skills and cultural knowledge with students around the world, ensuring their voices are heard and their expertise is valued. It's a model that benefits everyone involved. Refugees gain meaningful employment and a platform to share their stories, while students experience authentic language learning that goes beyond textbooks and grammar drills. Mursal's vision and leadership have not gone unnoticed. Mursal was awarded the Barclays Woman in the Community Award 2021, is a Forbes “30 under 30” and was awarded an MBE in 2021 for services to social enterprise, technology, and the economy. We are all looking for ways to make more informed choices about the food we eat. Mimica, an Unreasonable company, is putting the power back in our hands, literally. Mimica's Bump Tag is a temperature-sensitive label that lets you feel when your food has actually spoiled, encouraging proper storage and reducing waste by going beyond the limitations of 'best before' dates. They've just wrapped up another round of consumer testing with Lab4Living, and they're refining their designs based on valuable user feedback. It's exciting to see Mimica's continued dedication to tackling food waste in such an innovative way. The mission is clear: to drastically reduce unnecessary food waste. The Bump Tag technology is a key part of that mission, giving consumers accurate, real-time information about the freshness of their food. By simply touching the label, you can feel if the food is still good to eat. No more throwing away perfectly good food just because of an arbitrary date on the package! We're inspired by the dedication of Solveiga Pakštaitė and the entire team. We're excited to see their continued progress and the positive impact the Bump Tag will have in creating a more sustainable food system. *Please note that the product packages used in this study were selected randomly by Mimica’s researchers, and Mimica is not affiliated with or working in collaboration with Tesco or Vivera for this trial.* You can learn more about Solveiga Pakštaitė here - https://lnkd.in/eRsD4PeZ And you can learn more about Mimica here - https://lnkd.in/erWjAt7a

"We were trying to teach them a language, and there they were demonstrating that language learning is ridiculously easy." Witnessing the effortless multilingualism of children, This Unreasonable Fellow — C.P. Viswanath, realized that education could be joyful, immersive, and accessible to all. This vision led to the creation of Karadi Path Education Company, a social innovation enterprise that has transformed the lives of over 500,000 students across India. Karadi Path's unique methodology, honed over 16 years of research and development, replaces traditional rote learning with an experiential approach. By creating an English environment rich in Indian experiences and culture, children learn through discovery, developing fluency and confidence organically. But Karadi Path's impact extends far beyond language skills. It fosters a love for learning, builds self-esteem, and empowers children to dream big. Their journeys may have started in different worlds - one from the corporate boardroom and the other from an entrepreneurial startup. But these two Unreasonable Fellows — Vinod Kumar and Mike Zelkind — are united by a common goal: to create a food system that's better for people and the planet. Vinod Kumar, after a successful career leading teams at global tech companies, felt a pull towards something more impactful. He founded String Bio Private Limited, a company that's tackling the challenge of greenhouse gas emissions head-on. Their technology converts methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into valuable resources for the food and feed industries. It's a win-win: reducing harmful emissions while creating sustainable food sources. Mike Zelkind, co-founder of 80 Acres Farms, saw the limitations of traditional agriculture and decided to chart a new course. His company's indoor vertical farms are redefining how we grow food. With their cutting-edge technology, they're producing fresh, local produce year-round, regardless of weather or location - all while using significantly less water and energy than conventional methods. Both Vinod and Mike were recently selected as Fellows for the Unreasonable Food program, a collaboration between Unreasonable and Mars. This program empowers entrepreneurs to scale their impact and create a truly sustainable food system. Data centers are the backbone of our digital world, but their backup power systems often rely on outdated technologies. But that's changing. ZincFive, Inc., an Unreasonable company and innovator in nickel-zinc battery technology, is collaborating with Vertiv to introduce a new era of safety and sustainability to data center power. What does this mean? - Improved safety profile: Nickel-zinc batteries are inherently safer than traditional lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries, reducing the risk of fire incidents in data centers. - Smaller environmental footprint: ZincFive's batteries have a significantly lower environmental impact throughout their lifecycle, helping data centers reduce their carbon footprint. - Reliable backup power: These batteries offer high performance and can operate even if some cells are weak, ensuring critical systems stay online during outages. - Compact and space-efficient design: These batteries free up valuable space in data centers. Cleaner, safer, and more efficient data centers? Yes, please! That's what this partnership is all about. In a lab in London, far from the rolling hills and grazing cows of traditional cheesemaking, a team of scientists and food enthusiasts are redefining the way we produce and consume dairy. Their mission? To make delicious dairy cheese that is sustainable and kind to animals. They are Better Dairy, an Unreasonable Company led by Jevan Nagarajah. Driven by a passion for both food and the environment, Jevan sought a more sustainable way to create delicious dairy. His solution? Precision fermentation, a process that uses yeast to produce dairy proteins without the need for cows. This allows Better Dairy to craft cheeses that are indistinguishable from traditional dairy, yet lactose-free, and lower in cholesterol. Early taste tests have been a resounding success, with many unable to distinguish Better Dairy's products from traditional dairy — proving that deliciousness and sustainability don't have to be mutually exclusive. So, here's to a new era of dairy 🧀 – one that's good for you, good for the planet, and most importantly, tastes great. In 2020, this Unreasonable Fellow — Sea F. Briganti, wrote an open letter reflecting on the company's initial challenges in developing cost-effective, scalable alternatives to plastic. This introspection led to a key innovation: SEA TECHNOLOGY™, the world's first seaweed-based pellet designed to replace plastic at scale. Sea's journey to this breakthrough was one of resilience and ingenuity. With a background in design and experience at major companies like Coca-Cola and Nestle, Sea's passion for addressing the plastic crisis led her to establish LOLIWARE Inc. However, the company's early focus on edible seaweed cups faced hurdles in achieving widespread adoption due to production constraints. The creation of SEA TECHNOLOGY™ marked a turning point. Born from years of research and development, this innovation was the result of Sea's perseverance and collaborative spirit. By uniting diverse expertise and pushing the boundaries of what was possible, Loliware achieved a remarkable feat. Today, Loliware is a leader in the fight against plastic pollution, using SEA TECHNOLOGY™ to create sustainable products and reshape the plastics industry. By partnering with global manufacturers and leveraging existing infrastructure, Loliware is driving the rapid adoption of seaweed-based alternatives, paving the way for a plastic-free future. You can learn more about Loliware here - https://lnkd.in/erpfpch3 And you can read more about Sea's bio here - https://lnkd.in/etbhqsyg
