About us
Creating accessible, affordable freshness indicators for all types of perishable products, from food to pharmaceuticals, Mimica aims to become the globally recognised mark of freshness for industry, consumers and communities. Mimica is creating the next generation of food expiry labelling that reduces food waste and improves food safety. Bump is an award-winning label that turns bumpy when food spoils, based on actual temperature conditions. It provides real-time confirmation of the product’s freshness with a uniquely tactile user experience. It cuts unnecessary food waste by showing the true longevity of food. Created in 2017, founder Solveiga Pakštaite developed the concept behind Bump by Mimica while studying at Brunel University in London. Quickly followed by a patent granting and the building of a team of experts, Bump by Mimica went on to win the James Dyson Award and the project was awarded grant funding by the EU, the UK government and the Mayor of London.

We’re thrilled to announce that we've been awarded a new project by EIT Food’s Impact Funding Framework to deliver our #BumpTag into the meat and fish industries. #Bump helps producers extend expiry dates based on realistic storage conditions, rather than the overly cautious estimates used by the current system. Our previous projects and consumer testing have shown significant economic and sustainability benefits for producers, but consumer support is key to its success. In partnership with ABP Food Group, the UK's largest beef company, and University of Reading, this project will bring our food waste reduction technology to high-value products like meat and fish, while also assessing its impact on sustainable food choices.
