UrbanWorks won TWO project honors in this year's prestigious American Architecture Awards! "Since 1994, The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, together with The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press, have organized The American Architecture Awards as a way to honor the best, new significant buildings and landscape and planning projects designed and/or built in the United States and abroad by the most important American architects and planners practicing nationally and international." Esperanza Health Center won an American Architecture Award in the Hospitals/Medical Centers category, and the Nancy Franco Maldonado Paseo Boricua Arts Center won an award in the Mixed-Use Buildings category. Winner! UrbanWorks Esperanza Brighton Park Health Center received a Silver Award in the 2024 ALA Design Awards program, the third of three ALA awards won this year! The new Esperanza Brighton Park Health Center is a striking two-story-tall, 43,450-square-feet facility that houses expanded medical health services, comprehensive senior programming, and a family medicine residency program. The new building expands Esperanza’s presence in the Brighton Park community on Chicago’s South Side to encompass an entire city block, forming a new civic plaza in concert with an earlier facility at the north end of the site. The facility includes flexible spaces to meet the needs of its workforce while providing much needed services for community residents. In addition to examination rooms, the second floor features expanded administrative facilities and space for doctors in residency. Bright colors promote hope and positivity throughout the building. Winner! UrbanWorks Ann Rainey Senior Apartments received a Silver Award in the 2024 ALA Design Awards program, the second of three ALA awards this year! Clad in a white concrete panelized system with brightly painted metal trim, this lively articulated four-story-tall senior living facility provides a unique pairing of affordable housing and support services in one location. The design builds on the client’s mission “to enhance quality of life and facilitate independence of older adults,” with 54 one-bedroom and 6 two-bedroom, pet-friendly, affordable independent living apartments for seniors with a spacious lounge on each floor. UrbanWorks Senior Associate Jamin Nollsch will be presenting at the 2024 Housing Matters conference on Friday October 18th. The annual conference, hosted by Housing Action Illinois, focuses on "expanding and protecting affordable housing and ending homelessness in Illinois." Along with Mike Davis of Central Illinois Land Bank Authority, and Lindsey Elton of Eco Achievers, Jamin will be presenting as part of a workshop titled Navigating Accessibility & Sustainability Requirements in Affordable Housing Design.
