C. Finnigan, S.E. Northwestern University McCormick School of Engineering Director, Master of Science in Executive Management for Design and Construction Program Shelley, It took us a year to dream together, you and I. . . how we could convert the passion for the profession we both have – into more energy for this unique business program for our industry, the EMDC program. UIUC students - Visit to RADA Architects as a part of FIRM CRAWL 2024! In the late afternoon hours, right before Thanksgiving day, we were joined by an energetic group of students from UIUC, members of SBMA - Society for Business and Management in Architecture. Impressive was their time commitment, right before the holiday, to learn how key Chicago architecture firms operate. They did not catch Fierra, Christian and Rada, unprepared! Not only were we prepared with cookies and coffee, but with wealth of information about: - the architecture profession (Rada’s numbers about the dominating number of small and midsize firms in the US, yet with smaller share of access to projects; the gender composition changes, the 18 percent women architects are now 24 percent; comparisons with how architecture is practiced in the European Union – all food for thought for how to join the profession and where and how to advocate) - the importance of wide range of learning in the first years of employment (Fierra sharing her work – from concept plans for international competition, to CA process on a health care project, to use of Rhino, yes Rhino, no Sketch up, yes, it got technical) - the importance for firms to work with interns – high school, and BA graduates (Christian bragged about his plan for our office – as to how we expose people to active and structured learning). It was wonderful to see how interested students were, bright and inquisitive. It was also wonderful to see Seher Tayabee, on a second tour to our office over only two months! Thank you all for an afternoon well spent! Fierra Mulhern Christian Encarnacion Figueroa RADA Architects

Ruby, it has been precious to bring "new blood" to our AIA Continental Europe Group! We will endeavor to extend the Cyprus student competition experience, the Bulgarian AIA Europe "Next gen" to a next conferences! Stay tuned!
🌍 Reflecting on an unforgettable experience at the recent conference in Bulgaria, hosted by the amazing Rada and the AIA Europe Chapter. 🙏 A huge thank you to Rada Doytcheva, PHD, FAIA, MBA, LEED AP for the warm welcome and for organizing such a memorable event. Exploring Sofia, Tarnovo, and Plovdiv alongside fellow architects offered a wealth of insights into Bulgaria’s rich history, culture, and architectural heritage. These cities left a vivid impression that I’m excited to draw on in future design projects. Rada, I’m especially grateful for the way you brought us all together. It was inspiring to reconnect after our journey in 2016, when we worked on the AIA competition in Cyprus, and you served as an incredible mentor to my group. Your role as a leading woman in the industry is truly inspiring, and your helpful, inclusive approach is a reminder of the values I hope to carry forward as I continue in this profession. I deeply appreciate how you've continued to include me and so many others in these meaningful opportunities. This conference was also a chance to build new friendships, and I look forward to working together to help advance the chapter and carry it forward for future generations. Thank you, Rada, for all you do, for your passion in uniting the architectural community, and for the impactful experiences you've created for us. Looking forward to more collaborations and shared memories with such an inspiring group of peers! #AIAEurope #ArchitectureConference #Bulgaria #DesignInspiration #ArchitectureCommunity #Grateful #WomenInArchitecture #FutureGenerations

Congratulations to the Sauganash School project team!
LEED Silver for PBC Sauganash School Addition, Chicago! “We created more than a rectangular box for children. Our design details revived the character of CPS’s historical properties. In other hands the ornamental metalwork would have been discarded and the ceiling would have been monoplanar. RADA Architects’ articulation of light fixtures, entry portals, and attention to seeming basic details has created a memorable space that honors CPS’s architectural past and inspires its future.” Says a member from project team. Happy to also have the LEED Silver Plaque in our hands. . . heavy. Important.

AIA CONTINENTAL EUROPE FALL CONFERENCE 2024 BULGARIA: Ancient Places in a Modern World Dates: October 24-28, 2024 Continuing the tradition of unforgettable conferences in outstanding locations, AIA Continental Europe is heading to one of the oldest and most surprising places in Europe. We invite you to join us in Sofia on 24 October 2024 for the start of a marathon of architecture, art, history, nature and local cuisine across this little known but spectacular country. Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe still existing under the same name. With its rich past and culture, modern Bulgaria has created vibrant cities, with economy and infrastructure emerging from the communist past of the 20th century. Our conference will take us to the capital city of Sofia, the ancient Serdica, of which the Emperor Constantin used to say "Serdica is my Rome". We will also visit the second largest city, Plovdiv, the ancient Philippopolis, named after Alexander of Macedonia's father and ruler Philip. Plovdiv was chosen as the 2019 European Capital of Culture. The trip to Rila Monastery, one of seven UNESCO protected monuments in Bulgaria, dating back to the 11th century, will open another page in understanding Bulgarian culture and architecture. The Monday extension will highlight the ancient capital of Veliko Turnovo, whose fortress walls endured the Crusades and Ottoman attacks. The conference program is structured to draw as much as possible from the variety of experience, in this remarkable country of Spartacus, Orpheus, and in most recent times - of artists like Christo, opera singers like Boris Christov, scientists like John Atanassov, inventor of first electronic digital computer in the 1920-ies in the US. We look forward to this extraordinary experience! https://lnkd.in/gKhKvtEV
