USTA Southern California is deeply saddened by the passing of legendary coach Robert Lansdorp, a true icon in the tennis world who coached four players to No. 1 rankings. His remarkable legacy includes Tracy Austin (30 singles career titles), Pete Sampras (64 singles career titles), Lindsay Davenport (55 singles career titles), Maria Sharapova (36 singles career titles), as well as notable players such as Justin Gimelstob, Kimberly Po, Melissa Gurney, Eliot Teltscher, and Walter Redondo. Lansdorp’s students collectively achieved 148 USTA National Junior titles and 38 Grand Slam titles. Renowned for his expertise in groundstrokes, Lansdorp advocated a powerful, flat-hitting technique, famously known as the "Lansdorp Forehand," which remains influential in the sport today. Lansdorp's contributions to tennis were recognized with the USTA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 and the prestigious Team USA Coaching Legend honor in 2013, awarded during the inaugural Team USA Coaching Legend reception in Indian Wells, California. In June 2024, during our SoCal Pro Series event at the Jack Kramer Club, we were privileged to honor Lansdorp with the USTA Southern California Lifetime Achievement Award. Surrounded by many of his former players, the tribute was a fitting reflection of his lasting influence on tennis and the players he mentored. We extend our deepest gratitude for Coach Lansdorp’s extraordinary contributions to the sport. As we mourn his loss, we celebrate his profound legacy with heartfelt appreciation. https://lnkd.in/gNv-v-rz

Ernesto Escobedo III, known as “Neto,” was born in Los Angeles in 1996 to parents Ernesto Jr. and Cristina, who hail from Jerez, Mexico. Initially, his father, who also played tennis, didn’t want Ernesto to play, but when he saw him pick up a racquet at the age of 4, he quickly changed his mind. Now, Ernesto is living out both his and his father’s dream of being a professional tennis player. The 28-year-old was the first Mexican-American man to crack the Top 200 since former two-time U.S. Championships winner Pancho Gonzalez in the late 1960s/early 1970s. He reached a career-high ranking nine times in 2017, breaking into the Top 100 after qualifying at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami, and peaking at No. 67 following his Wimbledon debut. He spent 26 consecutive weeks inside the Top 100 that year. Some of his biggest upsets include defeating future World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in the first round of the 2017 Australian Open, beating John Isner in three tiebreaks to reach his first ATP Tour semifinal at the 2017 Houston event as a wildcard, and defeating No. 10 Jack Sock for the biggest win of his career at the 2018 Acapulco tournament as a qualifier. From 2014 to 2022, Ernesto represented the United States, but in 2023, he made the decision to play for Mexico. “I feel I’m from both countries,” Escobedo said at the Los Cabos event in 2017. “I can’t forget that my family is from Mexico, a magnificent country. I love to come here, the people are very nice. But, at the same time, I was born and raised in the United States.” #TeamSoCal #SoCalTennis #HispanicHeritageMonth #HHM

Vote for the Bryan Brothers to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame's Class of 2025! There are only 2 days left: https://lnkd.in/eRuC9wz. Bob and Mike Bryan are identical twin brothers who grew up in Camarillo. They grew up playing junior tennis in SoCal before going on to becoming the most successful duo of all time. The Bryans have won multiple Olympic medals, including the gold in 2012 and have won more professional games, matches, tournaments and Grand Slams than any other men's pairing. They held the World No. 1 doubles ranking jointly for 438 weeks (Mike has been ranked Men's Doubles World No. 1 for a total of 506 weeks), which is longer than anyone else in doubles history, and have also enjoyed that World No. 1 ranking together for a record 139 consecutive weeks. They have finished as the ATP year-end number 1 doubles team a record 10 times. Between 2005 and 2006, they set an Open Era record by competing in seven consecutive men's doubles Grand Slam finals. #TeamSoCal #SoCalTennis #BryanBrothers #BryanBros
