Nurse honorees: ARE YOU READY TO DON THE PURPLE with us? 💜💜💜
Tonight at 6 PM in McLeod Auditorium marks UVA School of Nursing's annual Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing induction ceremony, when 40 new honorees will be inducted into the now 52-year-old chapter and join the hundreds of fellow UVA nurses and Sigma members who came before them.
After remarks by Beta Kappa president and associate professor Malinda Whitlow, fellow faculty member (and alumna and Sigma member) Samantha Hudgins will greet each new inductee with the distinctive purple cord that they'll also wear at graduation.
We're also grateful for the support of past-president Sharon Bragg, DNP, RN, CCRN, assistant professor, treasurer Emily Evans, assistant professor, governance chair James Nisley, clinical instructor, assistant professor Richard Ridge, RN, MBA, PhD, awards chair, professors Elizabeth Taliaferro-Jones and Gina DeGennaro , who are members at large, and UVA Health representatives, faculty members and nurses Tanya Thomas and Mesha Jones.
Beta Kappa induction ceremonies go back to 1972, when things looked a little different ... Still present at tonight's ceremony, though, will be purple candles, purple awards, and the fellowship of gifted nursing students in a community of their extraordinary peers.
Congratulations, Beta Kappers! 👏👏👏
