On Friday, Oct. 25, UVA Health was proud to unveil a portrait at the University of Virginia School of Medicine honoring the namesake of Pinn Hall, Dr. Vivian Pinn, and her impact on medicine and research. Pinn received her medical degree from UVA in 1967 as both the only woman and Black member of her class. A pathologist and former director of the The National Institutes of Health’s Office of Research on Women’s Health, she is an exceptional leader who has made significant contributions to scientific discovery. Dr. Pinn is a pioneering figure in healthcare, research and the advancement of gender and racial equality. She has achieved remarkable progress in biomedical research, clinical medicine, medical education and policy, tirelessly working to create opportunities for current and future generations of women scholars, scientists and physicians. At UVA, one of the School of Medicine’s advisory colleges is named in Pinn’s honor. She has also received UVA’s Distinguished Alumna Award and was UVA’s commencement speaker in 2005. In 2016, the UVA Board of Visitors named Pinn Hall in her honor. 📽️ Watch the full video of the unveiling ceremony at https://bit.ly/40geCRL
