Delighted to see this work out today! This piece recognizes the importance of returning results of scientific research directly to the communities that provide their data rather than only within scientific, industry, and academic circles. This is an act that fosters trust by addressing ongoing power imbalances in scientific endeavors and falls under benefit-sharing and capacity-building initiatives that underpin a more equitable biomedical research relationship. Thank you everyone who contributed to this!

Save the date: On 15 October 2024, Public Policy Projects and Variant Bio will unpack how increased, meaningful and two-way engagement with communities can increase the possibilities for drug discovery. Join the discussion here👉 https://ow.ly/iTKM50STI7M
🔍 Genomic insight of the week Ongoing work on benefit sharing in genomics has highlighted how underserved communities should be engaged with, in regard to genomic research. This work has looked to both build community trust in genomic research and to ensure that population health inequalities are properly addressed. It is vital that underserved communities are recruited into genomics research, enabling greater opportunities for the development and discovery of life-saving therapies. However, this work cannot come at the expense of underserved groups; and, indeed, the benefits of such work must be felt by the communities that are participating in research. Join Public Policy Projects and Variant Bio as we unpack how increased, meaningful and two-way engagement with communities can increase the possibilities for drug discovery.
