Vertical SaaS Deserves Vertical Credit

About us

At Vaya, we have a deep appreciation for small businesses (SBs) and the entrepreneurs behind them. These businesses are the backbone of our daily lives, providing essential goods and services while creating jobs and driving economic growth. We believe that when SBs succeed, entire economies and countries prosper. However, succeeding as an SB is challenging, and one significant hurdle is obtaining the credit needed to run and grow their businesses. Our mission at Vaya is to make accessing credit easier for SB entrepreneurs. We achieve this by working with vertical SaaS companies, which serve as the operating systems business owners use to run their businesses day-to-day. These small business-focused vertical SaaS companies use Vaya to seamlessly embed tailored credit offerings into their core workflows to drive feature adoption, earn revenue, and catalyze growth. In turn, vertical SaaS with embedded credit offerings allows SBs to obtain the credit they need in when they need it and in the context of the vertical SaaS tools they rely on and love. Backed by a strong group of investors and founded by Ankit Singh and Soham Sen, our team brings extensive experience in building fintech products. At our core, we are software product builders dedicated to assembling a unique team to build a default inclusive world of financial services for small businesses, predicated on the success of our vertical SaaS customers. Our name, Vaya, which means “to weave” in Sanskrit and "to go" in Spanish reflects this mission to bring the worlds of embedded credit, vertical SaaS and SB together to grow together.

Last month, the Small Business Administration (SBA) sought congressional authorization for direct lending, aiming to improve access to credit for small businesses. They were rebuffed by congress in the face of strong industry opposition. This development underscores a critical point I explore in my latest blog: the challenges and limitations of relying on public policy to solve financial inclusion. In “The Pitfalls of Relying on Public Policy to Drive Financial Inclusion”, I explore: 🔍 Ways that governments can and do intervene in providing access to credit. I'll look at some examples globally as well as in the US. ⚖️ The historical and political reasons -- foreshadowed by the debates between Jefferson and Hamilton -- why the government interventions have been constrained or difficult to sustain in America. Plus, discover how a potential “no” from banks could have turned Steve Jobs into an obscure painter instead of the founder of Apple. 🍏 📖 Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/gV6ksKNj (This is part of a series of posts about our mission to support financial inclusion for small businesses at Vaya Technologies in partnership with our vSaaS customers. 🌟 New Blog Post: Is it Worth It? 🌟 The question that serves as the core barrier to financial inclusion. Growing up in Northern Michigan, I often wondered if the effort to dig out the family car for early basketball practice was worth it. 🏀❄️ This same question echoes in the decisions businesses make every day. In my latest blog post, I explore why profitability is the core barrier to financial inclusion. Despite the six commonly cited barriers like financial literacy and high bank fees, the underlying issue is simple: banks don’t find it profitable to solve these problems. 💡💸 Using small business lending as an example, I break down the costs and revenues for banks and why they prefer larger loans over smaller ones. Even if banks charge higher rates, it’s still not profitable enough to justify the effort for smaller loans. 📉🏦 This lack of incentive for banks to serve small businesses and low-income consumers leads to persistent financial exclusion. But understanding this barrier is the first step toward finding solutions. 🌍💪 👉 Read more in my full blog post: https://lnkd.in/gTT7sTbx (This is part of a series of posts about our mission to support financial inclusion for small businesses at Vaya in partnership with our vSaaS customers. 🔴 Around 20% of Americans are financially excluded in some form or the other. 🤔 My team was surprised to hear this. If financial inclusion is such a big deal, they asked, why are so many on the outside looking in? 💡 In trying to answer their question, I came across six key barriers that keep people out of the formal financial system or lead them to drop out: financial literacy, dwindling bank branches alongside a digital divide, language access, documentation requirements, a trust deficit, and fees. (I think there is actually a seventh, but I'll cover that in the next post!) ✍ I cover each of these and where you can learn in the full post below. 👇 (This is part of a series of posts about our mission to support financial inclusion for small businesses at Vaya in partnership with our VSaaS customers.
