WE'RE NOT DONE! I'm extremely grateful to have been able to spend the past few weeks in Italy with my family. This time has allowed me to pause and reflect deeply on the journey of the past few years. If you're new here...... several years ago, amidst the peak of my career as a Chief People Officer (CPO), I experienced burnout. Faced with the absence of science-backed solutions, I made a pivotal decision to shift gears in my career. My focus turned towards implementing cutting-edge scientific research on resilience, burnout prevention, and fostering psychological health and safety in the workplace to aid others. Launching evidence-based training programs and organizational consulting services focused on improving workplace culture and leader capabilities became my mission. I was driven by a desire to contribute to the global movement to make workplaces healthier and more effective. The data is clear; we just need to apply it. Though the recent years have presented challenges, they have also been profoundly rewarding. This period has allowed me to reconnect with my fundamental purpose: to make the world a better place through education. While I take pride in the impact my team and I have had, I recognize that our work is far from over. As I prepare to return home, I am rejuvenated and eager to continue pursuing my passion. My commitment remains steadfast: to make Psychological Healthy and Safe Workplaces not just a goal but a standard practice. #MentalHealth #PsychologicalSafety #TeamVerdant

Does your team take breaks? While here in Italy cherishing moments with my family, I'm reminded of the vital importance of embracing breaks. Our society often idolizes constant activity and productivity, but it's crucial to understand that rest and leisure aren't signs of weakness; they're integral to a healthy, fulfilling life. In the relentless pursuit of professional success, many employees fall victim to the misconception that constant work and dedication are the keys to advancement. However, in this fast-paced world, the significance of taking breaks and utilizing vacation time cannot be overstated. Despite its crucial role in maintaining physical and mental well-being, research shows that a substantial portion of the workforce does not utilize their allotted vacation time. Whether driven by fears of lagging behind or job security concerns, many choose to forgo vacations altogether, perpetuating a harmful cycle of overexertion and stress. Taking regular breaks throughout the workday is essential for rejuvenating the mind and preventing burnout. Short breaks, even just a few minutes to stretch or take a walk, can significantly improve focus, creativity, and overall job satisfaction. Moreover, the value of vacation time extends far beyond simply escaping the daily grind. Vacations and staycations offer a rare opportunity to unwind, recharge, and reconnect with loved ones, fostering stronger relationships and enhancing overall happiness. Time away from work allows individuals to explore new experiences, gain fresh perspectives, and return to their responsibilities with renewed enthusiasm. Employers play a critical role in promoting and encouraging employees to take breaks and utilize vacation time. If you are a company leader...........do you take breaks? Additionally, do you encourage your team to take breaks?

Did you know that role ambiguity, or the lack of clarity and certainty about one's role, responsibilities, and expectations at work, can contribute to burnout in several ways? Here's how: 1) Stress and Anxiety: Uncertainty about what is expected or how to prioritize tasks can lead to increased stress and anxiety. 2) Role Conflict: Ambiguity can lead to conflicting expectations from different stakeholders or departments within an organization. This can put employees in difficult situations where they feel pulled in multiple directions, leading to frustration and a sense of being overwhelmed. 3) Decreased Job Satisfaction: When employees don't have a clear understanding of how their work contributes to the overall goals of the organization, they may feel a lack of purpose or fulfillment in their roles. 4) Reduced Motivation and Engagement: Without clear direction or goals, employees may struggle to stay motivated and engaged in their work. Overall, job ambiguity creates a stressful and demotivating work environment that can contribute to burnout by undermining employees' sense of control, competence, and connection to their work. Feel free to share below additional ways role ambiguity can cause burnout.

Talent Leader | Executive Coach | Career Strategist | Leadership Development Facilitator & Mentor | Equipping Leaders, Enabling Talent, Transforming Teams, Opening Doors for Tomorrow, Today | HBR Advisory Council

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to witness something extraordinary: the beauty of diverse hands and minds coming together for a company’s all-staff on-site. One where it was evident that the intent of the leadership team was for 350+ employees from around the U.S. to spend time together, pushed back from desks and away from monitors to build relationships and honor one another. As a team of affiliates with Verdant Consulting, we facilitated hands-on exercises showcasing the richness of varied perspectives in the workplace through their Predictive Index profiles and behavior tendencies. The focus may have started with tasks around building structures, yet the net outcome yielded teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Despite the perceived simplicity of the tasks (depending on your ability to flex in formality), the engagement, laughter, problem-solving, and learning were profound. Participants had an opportunity to learn more about themselves, including their #leadership and communication styles, level of social engagement, degree of patience, and how structured or flexible they were. The visual that resonates with me today represents the diversity of many hands working together to coordinate, align, support, stabilize, and test as they continue to grow and develop as a team. Another beautiful element is how the four of us worked together, a couple of us meeting one another in person for the first time. This is yet another example of intentional and insightful design by Dr. Allessandria Polizzi, SPHR, PhD, given that we brought our differing PI profiles to the event. If you are interested in creating a similar experience for your organization, please reach out. I’d be happy to discuss the possibilities with you. #EmployeeExperience #Engagement #CompanyCulture #WorkplaceWellness
