I'm thrilled to share that we have successfully closed our seed funding round, raising $1.75 million! The investment is led by OneAscent, Grateful Investments, and the renowned Eagle Venture Fund, along with participation from Alumni Ventures and some fantastic angel investors. By 2030, there will be 130 million refugees, making them equivalent to the 10th largest country. VeroSkills connects their talent to help fill workforce shortages, such as the 500,000 unfilled U.S. manufacturing jobs. Join us in ushering in the workforce to lead the way in a new era of robotics and AI-driven industries!
We are honored to be a partner of the USA for UNHCR!
Today, USA for UNHCR's innovation lab, The Hive, hosted it's annual #Innovate4Refugees forum! Technologists, corporate sector partners, philanthropists and academics came together to exchange ideas about humanitarian technology innovations and data science solutions for refugees. Speakers and panelists included representatives from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and other organizations working with refugees on the ground, who shared about challenges and opportunities to use data and tech innovations to meet the moment. We would like to extend a huge thank you to our sponsors at GitHub and VeroSkills and our amazing hosts at Accenture for making today possible.
Meet Travis, a resilient and determined student whose journey from childhood interests to a promising career in technology is truly inspiring. As the youngest in a family with seven older siblings, Travis learned independence early. His love for video games, particularly The Sims, sparked a lifelong interest in technology. But his passions extended beyond the screen; he found joy in the outdoors and became a swim instructor, teaching kids how to swim and showcasing leadership at a young age. Middle school wasn’t easy, with Travis facing social challenges and feelings of isolation. However, with his grandmother's unwavering support, he began to build confidence, especially in 7th grade. This newfound self-assurance carried him into high school, where he joined the math club and discovered his passion for technology through AutoCAD. This experience ignited a spark that would shape his future. After high school, Travis worked at Parks and Recreation, where his leadership qualities stood out. His career took a significant turn when he was offered a trainee position as a water plant operator. Travis excelled in this role, passing the licensing exam on his first try, and demonstrating a self-taught approach to learning that would serve him well in the future. His journey into software engineering began with a mentor at his water treatment job and was further fueled by a friend who built his business website. Despite challenges in implementing his projects, Travis’s persistence never wavered. When initially rejected by Veroskills, he advocated for himself, refusing to take no for an answer. Travis’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of never giving up. His journey from video game enthusiast to aspiring software engineer shows that with perseverance and a willingness to learn, anything is possible. Travis embodies the qualities of a true innovator, pushing boundaries and setting new standards for himself every step of the way. We’re proud to spotlight Travis and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!
