I was honored to be invited by CryptoOracle Collective to share Vertalo's journey since our founding in 2017 and how 2022's massive market shift led to our re-focus on providing critical infrastructure to deliver on the promise of #RWA. I'll be at Blockworks #Permissionless next week (10/9-10), but if you want to see a demonstration of our work with MARA's Anduro/Avant platform (L2 on BTC to enable global RWA adoption), register for RWA Day on 10/8 in Salt Lake City! Let's meet up, or chat on the phone. Looking forward and thanks again Robin and longtime friend and supporter Lou Kerner.
KNOWLEDGE SHARING - Thank you to longtime friend of CryptoOracle Collective, Dave Hendricks, CEO and founder of Vertalo, for the stimulating and straight talk on the future of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Vertalo's Dave Hendricks: Real-World Asset Tokenization Needs Institutional Adoption, Not Hype Here are some key takeaways: Focusing on Real Impact, Not Tokenized Hype: Dave expressed scepticism towards the prevailing focus on tokenizing traditional financial instruments like treasuries. He highlighted the need to address the liquidity challenges within private markets – specifically real estate and private companies – as these sectors hold the true potential for RWA disruption. Institutional Adoption is Key: He stressed that the current RWA market remains limited by its dependence on retail investors. For significant growth, attracting institutional players is crucial, as they possess the capital and influence to unlock the asset class's full potential. Addressing Institutional Concerns: Many RWA platforms operate on third-party architectures, raising concerns for institutions regarding data security and potential IP leakage. Vertalo differentiates itself by offering a platform that can be seamlessly integrated within an institution's existing infrastructure, addressing these critical concerns. Building a Foundation for the Future: Dave emphasized Vertalo's shift from a product-centric company to a technology provider. By building a robust, adaptable platform and partnering with key players like MARA, Vertalo aims to create an efficient, transparent, and accessible RWA ecosystem that caters to both traditional financial institutions and innovative new players. Dave's insights offer a pragmatic perspective on the evolving RWA landscape. By prioritizing institutional adoption, addressing data security concerns, and focusing on high-impact use cases, Vertalo is positioning itself to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of asset management. Thank you Dave for your time, enthusiasm and for sharing your expertise with our members. We wish you and Vertalo great success! Click here to watch the full video https://lnkd.in/drsgTFTB

Many have shouted 'The Institutions are coming!' and that's becoming a reality. Slowly, Steadily, but not the way you're being told and sold. Let me expand. So far, Institutions have mainly been watching from the sidelines. Offering loss-leader custody services, helping wealth management clients buy ETFs, running expensive but ultimately (what they know are) dead-end 'Proofs of Concept' (aka 'POCs'). More ETF applications have been submitted...andy they're getting approved like an assembly line. Read closely and you will see many blanks where key providers - like Transfer Agents, L2s, how things are being custodied and how they are being tokenized - need to be named. Hmmmm. I wonder why? Institutions' existing crypto custody services and these various ETFs have legs and are a great way for institutions to get some exposure, but not the dangerous kind of exposure that would cause problems for their risk and security teams. No matter what you hear from the Main Stage, or at a booth, or at a side-conference, or yelled into your ear at an evening event... ...Institutions are *not* rushing to build their crypto or digital assets businesses on a 3rd party startup's website. Sure, they'll partner, sure they'll test and do a POC. But the real heavy lifting in Institutional Digital Assets will be done in-house, on their own cloud infrastructure, like before AWS was released in 2006. #RWA will be stuck in first gear until larger institutions can design, create, issue, manage, and distribute their OWNed RWA offerings. On-Prem. This opinion has not made me popular among the DeFi....errr RWA...crowd. Boo-Hoo. Have you wondered why so many projects are running on Private chains? Why is that? Because of control, trust, exposure, scalability, and FEAR. RWA is going to continue to grow, but further growth bounded by factors and internal procedures that are not driven by FOMO. Fear of data leakage, cost, control, front-running, startup survivability, liability, and so many other concerns will drive Institutions to create their own versions of these things. Reminder: No large financial institution will even use Gmail, Calendly, or so many other products that most of us share data with. They all use Microsoft Exchange, Teams, etc. Pleated-pants, squared-toe, normie stuff. Yeah, they're so uncool. But why would they share their investor, asset, and trading data with a third party? Sure, some will. Maybe to wet their beaks. It's happening, not gonna deny that. If you want to learn more about enterprise-ready institutional approaches to tokenization, transfer agency, asset management, check out the links below. And then let's meet while you're here in Austin, and we can talk about how you can work with Vertalo.

RWA isn't just about loans/debt instruments and stablecoins. It's never been, but those products are regulated MUCH more lightly than securities. While many will claim that RWA is either 'DeFi: The Sequel', or a better acronym than STOs - which have yet to take-off - it's really much more than that. In Rachel Wolfson's great piece connecting RWA & AI, I suggest that RWA needs to consider a larger collateral universe than just crypto. And until institutions can get into the RWA game, and expand the collateral from crypto, it will likely remain a fringe financial product. Institutions tell me they are essentially locked-out of creating their own RWA products for now, for reasons of system and startup risk, despite recent headlines that would indicate otherwise. DLT is at its core a slow but extremely trustful and precise asset management database. Tokenization should be a key part of this database infrastructure. Institutions would be smart to look at enterprise DLT products (like Vertalo) that satisfy their strict cyber/risk/IP policies if they don't want to miss out on the next big financial products opportunity. But it doesn't have to be binary. Check out her article in the comment below.
