Engaging with stakeholders such as the Waverly Business Council is critical to ensuring alignment on vision - and educating them how they can help promote our region. During the council's July meeting, we discussed some important milestones, including the Sussex Green Enterprise Park announcement, enhancements along Route 460, and the revitalization of Downtown Waverly. Keeping internal investors up to date on our progress is important because they reap many benefits when we succeed. We can't be truly effective without collaboration with everyone in our region. We appreciate Mayor Angela McPhaul for welcoming us into her historic home for this great conversation. #WaverlyBusinessCouncil #LocalInvestment #RegionalCollaboration #CommunityDevelopment #WaverlyVA #sussexcountyVA

We have what it takes to be a significant player in Virginia's continued growth in data centers. That starts with open space for expansion, but we also have the right infrastructure in place: transmission lines, fiber optic capacity and energy production from the nuclear facility in Surry County. Our new fiscal year is now under way, and exploring new relationships to attract growth in this sector is key to our strategic vision into 2030. This specialty industry could mean a major economic boost for our region. #DataCenterGrowth #VirginiaData #SurryCountyEnergy #RegionalDevelopment #wehavethespace #wehavetheinfrastrucure #VEDP

Our region includes quaint downtowns and out-of-the-way retailers. When you spend just $1 at a local store, you'll find that $0.67 stays right in your community. It's a win-win, especially when you realize you're helping to grow jobs right here. All month, we're celebrating Independent Retailer Month. Why not use the opportunity to explore the many one-of-a-kind merchants in our region? Some places to start include The Claremont Candle Company, Virginia Diner Shoppe and Farmer Joe's Greenhouse & Garden Shop. #shopindie #investathome

Virginia is open for business! We're excited to do our part in welcoming future investors and supporting the growth of every existing business in our region. Great news for all.
Today, the Commonwealth celebrated Glenn Youngkin’s announcement that Virginia has been ranked “America’s Top State for Business” by CNBC. The annual ranking measures all 50 states on 128 different metrics in 10 key categories of competitiveness. Governor Youngkin and Secretary Caren Merrick shared this breaking news alongside many of our founding members of the Alliance for Building Better Medicine at a special event hosted at Phlow’s new Metric Ton-Scale cGMP facility in the City of Petersburg, VA. Also included in today's event, Eric Edwards, MD, PhD and Dr. Frank Gupton shared how Phlow set out four years ago to re-imagine and re-shore domestic production of critical ingredients and finished drug products needed to sustain life and conquer disease. With their partners, Civica Rx, VCU’s Medicines for All Institute, and AMPAC Fine Chemicals, Phlow chose Petersburg to build its state-of-the-art infrastructure to create a reliable supply of safe, high-quality, and affordable medicines for all. At warp speed, public and private stakeholders have worked together to build next-generation facilities in Petersburg, as well as in Richmond, capable of creating domestic supply chain resiliency and reliability for life-changing medicines. The shared successes and milestones achieved in the region have since led to other leaders in life sciences and pharmaceutical manufacturing seeking out Richmond-Petersburg to expand their own facilities. In celebration of the bold thinking and tenacity of the industry leaders building better medicine in Petersburg, Governor Youngkin, Secretary Merrick, and Mayor Samuel Parham, with the help of students from Virginia State University, unveiled a new brand for the area – called Campus for Advanced Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals in the United States (CAMPUS). The unveiling of the new CAMPUS brand is a way to honor the thriving ecosystem that has emerged in Petersburg and to give it an official name as Petersburg continues to attract other pharmaceutical leaders to our region.

If you don't grow your own, the next best place to find local tomatoes is your nearby farmers market - and our region boasts some great options. In fact, the Hopewell Farmers Market, the River Street Market in Petersburg and the Surry County Farmers Market each earned gold certification this year from the Virginia Farmers Market Association. The designation honors markets for best practices in 11 categories, including food origin and consumer education. Agriculture built the foundation of Virginia's economy, and having a vibrant network of local farmers enhances the quality of our communities. #eathealthy #eatlocal #supportlocalfarms #farmersmarkets #ripetomatoes
