What an amazing investment by our partner, #Sussex County, which is making headlines with the launch of its innovative Sussex Green Enterprise Park. This 1,160-acre park is destined to attract future-focused companies committed to integrating sustainability with commerce. Investing in economic investment of this magnitude requires a long-term commitment and vision from county leaders. We're also sending our appreciation to the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, which are providing important grant support for this major initiative. We encourage you to honor this day at #Petersburg National Battlefield, site of the longest military event of the Civil War. Visit and post your photo with the hashtag. https://ow.ly/5xMO50SsXqi

Our growth strategy for the region includes taking our message of economic development opportunities on the road, finding channels for speaking with prospects on what makes VGR unique. Last week, Tom Scott joined up with the domestic and international Virginia Economic Development Partnership teams to attend SelectUSA, held at National Harbor in Maryland. The conference drew more than 4,900 participants, with representatives from 55 U.S. states and territories, along with 83 international markets. Joining Tom were Eric Jehu, Deirdre Ryan O'Rourke, Caitlin Champion, Marie Gonzalez Gallegos, Kei Sakaguchi and Vince Barnett. Together, we can tell the most compelling story to attract new business. #economicpartnership #teamwork #selectVGR #openforbusiness

Regional investments by pharmaceutical partners like Civica Rx will change lives as our nation faces even longer shortages of critical drugs. Read the full post for how the company is boosting its manufacturing capabilities in Petersburg to address demands. #leadtheway #changelives #pharma
This new drug shortage report is alarming but not surprising. It shows that the average shortage is lasting three years and getting longer. It demonstrates how price is predictive of a shortage. And, it reports that new shortages in 2023 were predominantly associated with the US and EU. From US Pharmacopeia: "The insights in the USP Annual Drug Shortages Report are derived from USP’s Medicine Supply Map. It uses artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to identify, characterize, and predict risk in the complex supply chain for manufacturing drug products and their ingredients... "The report provides an in-depth analysis of the factors leading to increased shortages in 2023, particularly in generic sterile injectable medicines. With the average duration of shortages exceeding three years, it's more important than ever to equip your organization to anticipate and mitigate these risks." Key report highlights: --Economic factors: The impact of pricing and manufacturing complexities on drug shortages. --Geographic concentration: How the centralization of production can increase vulnerability. --Quality concerns: Highlighting quality issues from regulatory inspections and recalls that can indicate drug shortage risks. Civica Rx is becoming a part of the solution, ensuring a reliable supply of quality medications for approximately 1,500 member hospitals across the U.S. through longer-term contracts (providing predictability for both hospitals and the manufacturer), fair and sustainable pricing, buffer inventory and a relentless focus on quality. We are also boosting U.S. based sterile injectable manufacturing capability through our new, state-of-the-art facility in City of Petersburg, VA, outside of Richmond, VA. https://lnkd.in/e5ipNB5A

Feliz aniversário to Gerdau North America as you’d say at its parent company’s HQ in Brazil! Last week, the #Petersburg mill in #Dinwiddie County threw a party for its 25th anniversary. Founded by TXI Chaparral Steel, the mill was acquired by Gerdau Ameristeel in 2007. Joining corporate leaders, local employees and community members at the celebration were Maggie Garinther of VEDP, Nadia Fruchey, HR manager at Gerdau, and VGR’s Amy Everett and Jill Vaughan. In a reverse-gifting approach, Gerdau made donations to several local nonprofits, including Dinwiddie Fire & EMS Admin and the James House. The mill turns recycled scrap metal into new structural steel products used in construction. Committee to sustainability, Gerdau has delivered innovation with energy-efficient manufacturing processes, as well recycling and waste reduction programs. A key economic growth partner, the mill has created jobs, while supporting local education and training programs. #steel #manufacturing #keepongrowing
